  1. Never heard of this, but the comments on that link have the recipe and it contains Worcestershire sauce?? Pretty intrigued, looks delicious.

  2. In Canada, we call it Nuts & Bolts. There are several recipes for it as well.

  3. My wife (American) makes chex mix with Rice Chex, which is like a Rice Krispies version of shreddies, and it’s way better than the wheat version.

As Super Hans would say, it’s really moreish.

  4. Yep! It’s called Chex Mix, and though it sounds like it shouldn’t work, its delicious as a party snack. Up until the mid-80s it was something consumers had to make themselves, then the Ralston Purina company got smart and started making and packaging it themselves. Aaaaand, now I’m craving some – another commenter is right; in the words of Super Hans, it is really moreish!

  5. Butter spices and Worcestershire sauce. It’s really good but must be made at home in the oven. Not store bought. Never heard the word shreddies

  6. Copy pasta:

    [DSquariusGreeneJR](https://www.reddit.com/user/DSquariusGreeneJR/)• [2y ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/castiron/comments/zbntvj/comment/iysxjem/)•

2 and 2/3rd cup of each Rice Chex, Corn Chex, wheat chex
    1 cup mixed nuts
    1 cup cheez its
    1 cup pretzels
1 cup bagel chips 1tsp seasoned salt (I can never find this shit so I use something random every year, this year I used Meat Church voodoo)
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1/2 tsp onion powder
    2 Tbsp Worcestershire
    1 stick butter

You can use a baking pan if you want but I throw it in the cast iron. Melt butter in pan or skillet at 250, once melted add Worcestershire and seasonings and mix well, add the rest of the ingredients and stir thoroughly. Cook at 250 for an hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Every time I take it out of the oven I grab a few bites and usually end up adding more seasoning and W sauce just sprinkle it on top and stir it up. Let it cool and enjoy!

My ex used to make it, and it was amazing.

  7. These are the best posts.

Wait until you learn about biscuits and gravy…

  8. And it’s delicious : ) Store bought can be mid sometimes but homemade is the best! And people like the other ingredients like the rye bagel chips in it so much they just sell the other seasoned bits by themselves. It’s got a lot of savory seasonings on it with Worcestershire sauce on it.

I don’t think anyone eats these plain except for fussy moms who don’t want their kids to eat sugary cereal.

Of course, if you want their true potential to be revealed, you make what is either called Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow depending on where you are at in the states. Peanut Butter and Chocolate melted together, mixed in with the shreddies, tossed with powdered sugar. Whole thing can be done with a microwave, a bowl, and a plastic bag. Super messy, super delicious.

  9. my wife introduced me to the puppy chow version and its amazing.

  10. Wow I miss this stuff. Haven’t had it in 10 years maybe. Good stuff.

  11. Wait until you discover Triscuits. They’re basically garlic flavour shreddies, among other flavours. And they’re friggin delicious.

  12. You should try puppy chow!
Wheat and rice checks, tossed in a mixture of chocolate and peanut butter. Once cooked down, toss in powdered sugar and add peanuts and m&ms!

  13. I tried making this with Shreddies. While it wasn’t too bad, it’s no substitute for the real thing.

I brought several bags back with me on my recent trip to the US.

  14. I’ve heard of “Captain Crunch Casserole” in a movie before now.

  15. I give it four weeks before this becomes a viral trend in the UK now.

  16. I can’t eat Shreddies since I discovered they were knitted by nanas. Has to have been the worst advertising campaign ever.

  17. There has not yet been one Christmas in my life without this delicious snack, and hopefully never will be

  18. i’m just a casual american visitor to this sub but it’s really good

3 cups each of corn chex, rice chex, and plain cheerios

1/2 tsp of onion powder, 1 tsp of seasoning salt, 1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder

3 tbsp each of worcestershire sauce and avocado/olive oil (or mix around the amount for this to get the right texture idr the right numbers)

mix seasonings and liquid in a cup and pour it over the mixed cereal

put it all into a pyrex casserole tray and microwave for one-two minutes at a time stirring in between (break up clumps) until it’s all dry

you can also substitute the rice chex for cinnamon chex if you want a sweet and savory version that’s really good

a lot of people add pretzels or nuts to the normal version
