Britain importing record amounts of electricity from Europe. (over 40% in 2023) The biggest share of imports so far this year has come from France, where the bulk of the power is generated by the country’s large fleet of nuclear power stations.

Dam those filthy French with their cheap and clean electricity.
Look at our wonderfully efficient pretty wind turbines instead. Johnny foreigner must be so envious of how “green” we are.
Oh yes and they don’t work when it’s calm.
We should have relied on nuclear energy more in the past would have stopped our reliance on dirty energy and produced large sums of energy
Considering that EDF run UK electricity companies and they are a French company it’s hardly surprising that they will sell us electricity at top prices to subsidise their customers back in France.
Unfortunately various governments have let this sorry state of affairs develop to the point where if the French pulled the plug on the supply through channel cables most of the UK would be blacked out.
Perhaps we could get the French to build us nuclear power stations and pay them enough that they could use the money raised to reduce the price French citizens pay 🤔
This graphical representation of where our energy comes from tells an interesting story.

So we subsidise France’s energy and Italy’s trains. Privatisation is a crackpot fairytale, espoused by morons.
I just looked at maps of nuclear power stations in France. They literally have one right on the channel. Probably designed to power the UK
We let all the talent for building and running these plants go elsewhere and not promoting it’s study, so even if we wanted to build more now, it would be very expensive and mostly done by foreign companies.
Critical infrastructure and it’s security in the UK is a joke. Mostly owned by foreign investors (airports, energy, ports, etc, etc) and we’re starting to see the effects of this and the fact they don’t care enough to reinvest.
Successive failures of all government parties is akin to economic sabotage.
It’s a shame the wave hub idea never went further. Millions spent on it for nothing. We haven’t always got decent sunshine but we’ve always got waves and the tide!
The price we pay for imported energy isnlower than the cost of UK produced energy. So this is actually a good thing.
This is just a shitty rage bait headline designed to infuriate the uninformed. The authors are intentionally misleading people and should be embarrassed by their thinly veiled propaganda.
Yeah, this number is only going to increase as Mad Miliband’s suicidal energy policy bites.
We will be left with the most expensive, most unreliable and most insecure energy supply in the developed world. Quite some feat!
Without access to cheap, reliable power the country becomes poorer. Growth is impossible.
Miliband is a national security threat and should be treated as such.
We need nuclear and fracking.
