Google Maps is displaying updated location of ukrainian military systems, but Google refuses to fix the issue because they are on weekend

  1. The most ridiculous and nonsense reason I have ever heard

  2. Oh it’s not a mistake. Pretty much all the rich tech-bros are pro oligarch.

  3. Holy shit! Talk about unprofessionalism on there end & been extra rude saying we have time off

If you can tell me that it means your working you need to fix this , it’s not like Russia likes Google

It has fined them more money than all the money in the world combined

I hope this is sorted today, if not right now! It’s a joke!

  4. This world is completely f*cked. The priests scare us that we can go to hell when we die. And we’ve been in hell for a long time

  5. “Listen Putin, if we don’t have to pay for the 20 quintillion dollar fine for russia, we’ll show some juicy pictures from Ukraine for you to bomb. Deal?”
    – Some Google exec, 2024

  6. Google takes years to update their maps. If they’re posting military locations, Ukraine hasn’t moved their stuff for months. Plenty of places where anyone can get daily sat photos.

  7. Is this legit? I have hard time seeing gmaps being updated real time, in fact so real time that mobile military units are still at their gmaps position. Like hell, anywhere else I look the images are at best 6 months old (EU capital cities for example)

  8. Some big country in the west lost its feeling of responsibility for anything

  9. If Russians have already seen it, hiding it in Google apps does not fix anything now. They should relocate and hide things better, and in general they should operate with the assumption that everything is visible from above. Russia has decent satellites now, they don’t have to rely on Google Maps.

  10. All Russia ans Ukraine shouldn’t be updated at all. Go back to 2010 maps or something.

  11. Is it Google’s preemptive obedience to President Trump?

  12. Sadly at this point is already to late to take it down. Hour after this f up was too late.

  13. Google needs to be separated in many different independent companies.

  14. Quite simply Google and everything that belongs to Google is a greedy bunch of morons who don’t care about the world or the people! Only money counts for Google!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Google even sells information to Russia!

  15. It means the Russian positions are shown, too. Work faster, avoid disaster.

  16. Unacceptable. There should always be people on the clock to fix this.

  17. I always felt low key terrible about the “guilt” the world and my country tried to put on my because 100 years ago some people who are all dead now decided that genociding a people in an industrial fashion was a cool idea. Like I never had anything to do with that and consider myself above comitting such attrocities…

But I will never live down the 1.5th-hand shame I feel over how much everyone is letting down Ukraine. It’s heartbreaking to know these people are fighting for their existence while the western world looks on, takes their time with helping, restricts the usage of that help and as seen here will often even help the aggressor. It’s not exactly my fault/responsibility, either. I feel very helpless about the situation in fact. But goddamn do I feel an actual ton of shame on my shoulders over how these people are left to their own devices against an antagonist that is attacking the free world (not just in Ukraine, their disinformation to destabilize the west concerns us all anyway)

  18. I have small business where Google is a big part of it. I can say based on my 5 year experience that they don’t give a fuck about anything. You can be paying Google millions per month, and they will show you a middle finger. The customer service is not existent. As someone said – they are too big to give a fuck. Probably also infiltrated with ruzzianz, and people from countries who are friends with putin

  19. If the updates are on google maps, you can be 100% sure Russians already have the same photos. Don’t be stupid.

  20. not to tip the Russians off but i hope they planned it and all visisable systems are decoys.

  21. So the ruSSians don’t have any satellites and have to rely on google to get their intelligence?

I hate ruSSia as much as normal people, but this just doesn’t seem legitimate.

  22. Yeah I also reported store that was closed few months ago, and community didn’t approve my change 🫤

  23. If Google has the stuff there, then presumably they were tagged there by the Russians? Unless this means Google satellites are giving info away?…

  24. This is Google paying off their $20 decillion fine to Russia

  25. It’s literally a 5 second job to pull mapping for a country

Or at least have the brains to anticipate a future problem.

Google needs a massive fine so that they don’t let their “weekend off” result in deaths of hundreds

  26. This could also be part of info war. Maybe fake info being dispersed to make russia hit those targets. I doubt Ukraine will send these messages out if they were trying to really suppress info.

  27. This post smells of bullshit. Sat image is updated by third party via airplane. if there’s something on satellite, in a war zone, imaged by the equivalent of a cesna.. I have many dumbs questions.

Also, weekends don’t exist at FAANG companies.

  28. I’m sorry but sounds like some sort of propaganda. russia has sat images regardless of google

  29. If this is a problem then it means the orcs have shittier satellites than even the commercial/civilian orbiters used by Google. If Google doesn’t want to get images approved (which might never happen) then they should delay updates for 6 months after images are taken, and push the updates on a Monday with dedicated team available to fix issues. “Do No Evil”.

  30. hey you and I having war and your satellites showing our military systems. Take it off!

  31. Huh? Seems like the old satelite imagery as per usual. Did they already revert it back or is it a specific sector?

  32. The way the world is tippy toeing & pandering to Putin is the same way the world tippy toed & pandered to Hitler!

  33. You would think we would just deem it important to our national security and make them act right

  34. Redditors be like “unions are the best, look they protect your rights and give you the weekend off” then also the next day “what the fuck drag these people in on their day off and chain them to the desk to work fuck this freedom bullshit”

  35. russian commander: “Have you located the enemy positions?”

russian army “intelligence” operative: “Uh, yeah… let me get them real quick…” *opens google on his phone* *googles “ukrainian military positions”* *actually finds them* ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  36. That works both ways. Ukraine also has access to current Russian military positions. Google Earth updating their maps from Maxar and similar imagery is ongoing and isn’t going to stop. FFS, Ukraine buys almost real time imagery from Maxar. Russia probably does the same thing.

It’s not like this is some nefarious corporate thing. It’s what mapping companies do. Google doesn’t bother blurring US stuff anymore either. If you know where to look and what to look for they show air defenses for Washington, DC. That’s just life in a world of mapping satellites and cheap aerial imagery.
