We all felt sorry for her as she respected the rules, while they’re snorting coke in number 10Utterly shameful, setting rules for the rest of the country that not only do they not follow, but they laugh at, while also laughing at us.

  14. thinking about the woman who called LBC and talked about how her daughter had a mental health crisis during lockdown and she wasn’t allowed visit her because she and her husband lived too far away. Her daughter took her own life and the woman’s anger talking about Partygate was visceral. My heart broke for her

    I feel like its common sense that if you find yourself as the new leader of any political party, you immediately distance yourself from and don’t comment on the things that happened in the past which were immensely unpopular. Even more so when your the Tories and just suffered one of the biggest defeats in your entire history.

    At least try to portray yourself as being a new start ffs I should be grateful shes already shooting herself in the foot, but the incompetence just frustrates me.

  23. I genuinely think partygate was one of the most disgusting and unacceptable things I’ve seen in politics. You introudce the most strict rules that essentially take away our freedom during unprecedented times but you don’t follow them yourselves, you make a mockery out of it and try to cover it up and lie about it. People couldn’t see their own parents in hospitals/care homes during the last months of their lives. Couldn’t go to funerals. People suffered from loneliness, new parents were on their own with no family support, people’s lives were turned upside down. Rightly or wrongly they took away our freedom during a uniquely unprecedented time but they still had theirs. For me that’s unforgivable. Young people were fined for meeting up with their friends, Boris Johnson and Co should have personally paid back everybody who was fined and issues them a public apology. These people are not more important than us however much they think so

    , but I always thought it was fucking bonkers how much more angry people were about Partygate than they were about the thousands who died as a result of mishandling the beginning of the pandemic.

  35. I don’t agree, i certainly didn’t agree when i was at my mothers funeral, or when i was sitting by the phone when she was in hospital, where she died all alone, because we were all locked down, maybe the tories just think differently to the rest of the people of the UK.

A group of the people ostensibly running our country held a party in direct contravention of restrictions put in place to control a global pandemic, while our monarch, a woman in her nineties, was alone and isolated the night prior to the funeral of her husband of about seventy years. It’s not overblown to say that that was fucking disgraceful conduct. One day in the top job and she’s already trying to gaslight the public.

  40. As a nation we stayed away from loved ones who were desperately lonely and locked in for months. We said goodbye to dying relatives over Zoom. People could not attend funerals of loved ones who died. We put our whole lives on hold because we were told it was for the good of the most vulnerable people in society, even if it was at a great personal sacrifice. We did it because it was the right thing to do.

    All that time, our Government was holding parties. At the very best it was bending the rules and going against their spirit, at worst it was breaking them and putting people in danger. All so they could have a few drinks with friends.

    When they were caught doing it, they lied. They not only lied to Parliament, but lied to the Police, and to the people about it. It was only when the proof was irrefutable that they grudgingly said sorry. When you have to drag the apology out of someone like that they clearly don’t mean it. They have then spent the time since then saying they should not have apologised and the whole thing was overblown.

    I personally will never forgive them for it. They took the trust of the nation facing arguably its greatest threat since the Second World War, and abused it. They thought the obligations that applied to all of us they were exempt from. Every single person involved should never serve in public office ever again, and should crawl back under the rock from whence they came.

    Fuck them.
