  1. how many years it will take to send a clipper there?

Fuck 150 letters rule, it prevents me from asking simple questions like this, mods please remove it, it’s a dumb rule that’s hurting this sub not helping it.

  2. So…I hate to be the Negative Nancy (I don’t but it feels appropriate to say)

Outside of establishing the presence of life and water on Miranda, what does this mean? We’ve failed miserably at protecting life on Earth so what protections are we putting in place for extraterrestrial life?

IF these microorganisms have some kind of useful benefit to human life, which governing agencies would be responsible for ensuring they aren’t used for biological warfare or borderline unethical experimentation? Or, worst case, aren’t harvested to near extinction?

The implications of water and life outside of our world is astounding but considering humanity’s track record, I’m left with concerns equal to my awe and curiosity.

  3. God I really hope we don’t reach them anytime soon coz you know Musk and bezos will try to enslave these poor souls. This feels like the start of an evil empire that destroyed its home planet over greed and now seeks to ruin the rest of the solar system.

  4. By my count that’s Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan, Enceladus, Iapetus, Pluto, Charon and Miranda as potential ocean planets that may or may not have life in underground oceans. I’m sure I’m forgetting some. If even one of them has some unicellular life it would be the greatest discovery in history, and if that life is wholly independent of life on Earth, it virtually confirms life is ubiquitous elsewhere.
