Dublin Mayor carry on is laughable to say the least. No one, and I mean no one in modern Ireland gives a toss about a “Mayor” who will do nothing for any community other than wear the fancy neck accessory and pose for photos. This country is well and truly checked out. Fucking joke
It won’t be long before we need a citizen’s assembly to get a pothole fixed. Look, it’s great that we have a platform to discuss complex problems in a non-partisan way. But all it seems to be achieving right now is giving the government an excuse not to take a position on anything vaguely contentious.
Not every policy needs to be meticulously crafted and perfect on day 1. We could spend years waiting for a conclusion from the citizen’s assembly. Or we could decriminalise drugs tomorrow, and then adjust legislation, funding, etc, as evidence of the success/failure of decriminalisation emerges.
But that would require politicians in charge who actually believe in things.
