BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Cities and towns that send students to United Technology Center in Bangor will have a referendum question on the ballot Tuesday.
It asks voters if they want to authorize just over 1.8 million dollars for new equipment for UTC.
The equipment would modernize 18 out of 23 programs to meet the current industry standards.
There would be no impact on local educational taxes as debt service on the bond would be paid by the state.
“They‘re going to be out there, maybe fixing your plumbing or building your new house, and things like that. And you want them to be able to know what they are doing with the equipment that they need. So, this allows them to do that. So, it’s actually, I think, a huge boost to the economy in the long term because you want to play that long game of ‘Where does this go from here?’. Well, it’s training these kids to someday be the professionals of the future,” stated Aaron Jackson, UTC’s Video and Audio Production Instructor.
UTC serves 31 municipalities in Southern Penobscot County with Bangor being the largest.
