Europe is far from stepping up on defence, top diplomat Pierre Vimont says • FRANCE 24 English
With the US election just around the corner, is the EU prepared for what might be coming? And what does “being prepared” mean, exactly, when it comes to Europe’s defence capabilities? These are some of the questions we put to veteran French diplomat Pierre Vimont, who was ambassador to Washington during the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Vimont argues that the EU needs to develop much longer-term strategic thinking, whether on Ukraine and Russia, or China, or the Middle East, or the EU’s own near neighbourhood.

Neutrality Studies w/ Prof Nicolai N Petro – The Real War: BRICS Multipolarity vs NATO Hegemony
7:33 let me laugh! What did Miss Merkel do to achieve something? Nothing. Merkel was a disaster for Europe.
Military Secrets are "Military Secrets". Devastating in Nature.
well if you step up you will be pressured to step in ukraine , ain't nobody wanting to do that unless u.s goes first
At this stage there's people at the bus stop talking more sense than most political commentators. Giving Zelensky another single penny is ridiculous, obviously he's a stooge, and a comedian, though the 2 have been blended at the cost of not his pockets. Europe will do very well to end the insanity of the you know what and play to European strengths, producing quality goods and foods. The land of Europe is a veritable garden and countries like the US, Japan and China, making a reasonable proportion of the world's top ten economies, absolutely LOVE European branding. Indeed, it could be said EU tariffs on European goods priced itself out of it's own markets. I'm in England, but I can't purchase, online, from EU countries, but China I can, and I pay only 25% of what I pay in England, regardless of where it comes from. In fact, goods from Chile, South Africa or Myanmar are spotlighted here before our own European producers. Even though the brands will be of European name.
If Europe needs a defence, it's be European, as it's done for time immemorial. And, are the tariffs on Chinese electrical goods an indicator of the real forecast for Tuesday, the 5th?
Your defense line is once again in a wrong place.
..then don't provoke your neighbor 😅
Europe was, is and will be a vassal of USA if not actual colony.
Defence spending spells tremendous wealth for politicians. Maintain respect, neighbourliness, and peace, and they lose substantial side-incomes.
The more I look at EU, the more I see a perfect storm is coming there… Am I pessimistic? 🤔
There are 650 million Europeans and 143 million Russians. I would like commentators and politicians to state this fact loudly and repeatedly.
Europe's economies are speeding down hill.
Population is dying out.
And EU politicians are warmongering about puting trillions in defense.
And waste trillionsnon US proxy wars
A key part of the problem has been the willingness of European elites to get infatuated with the Ruzzian resourses, & the economical benefits stemming from them, without questioning where it came from, or how it would corrupt us, unless we put some limitations on it.. In this process it was also inconvenient to look closer at the infiltration & manipulation of opinions the Ruzzian elites were working with.. This led to a form of self-deception as to what they were aiming for. With the full scale attack on Ukraine, the "vail" finally dropped.. The foulness of the new "Mucovite" empire & it's ambitions came out in the open (although many still try to say it's not real). The fascist type of regime that Putin & his cronies have transformed Ruzzia into, simply isn't compatible with modern Europe or th EU.. That is ofcourse very inconvenient for many, who have sometimes invested a lot of money & other resources into that nation/empire.. Braking away is a costly proposition.. Nevertheless, if we want EU & Europe to survive, we must..🧐 Hopefully Kaja Kallas can help EU start seeing things more clearly.. Presently, too many parties in the EU & it's memberstate are too busy navelgazing, without realizing how much of a linchpin the Muscovites are to the threats we face. This includes France, Germany, Italy & Spain.. It also includes the US, who the Muscovites apparently have become very apt at manipulating..🧐 Putting a stop to the Muscovites will ofcourse not solve all problems in the world, but it would limit them to a much more manageable scale..🤨 The Muscovites have spent decades sponsoring extremists of both the left & the right of the political spectrum, all over Europe, aswell as in other regions; why? Because they belive in sawing chaos & division amongst it's "neighbours".. divide & conquer.. This has been a constant theme of their actions, weather their regime was called Communist, or went by any other name..
And, this is the reason why American taxpayers have thrown up their hands and gotten further disappointed by our European "allies" who fail THEMSELVES by not funding their own defense and national security. (Even in the face of crisis right in their own backyard?)
How can Europeans be surprised by the reluctance of the American public to support those who fail to support themselves? Americans have no problem being a 'backbone' to an integrated European defense, but a functional 'body' needs to have arms and legs, which Europe has failed to develop and build (for itself) because you don't want to pay for it. Yet, you wish to complain to, and about, America?
The US has decided that Europe can't never be let to stand up, because the US will lose its grip over the continent. Russia is but a bogey, not worth spending real money on defence and Moscow is not worried about France or Germany getting stronger. It's the US who will feel the consequence of a stronger Europe.
