Margaret Renkl, a contributing Opinion writer, argues in a guest essay that a second Trump presidency will imperil the planet:
“Where planetary survival is concerned, it is too late to sit out an election on principle, or to cast a vote for a third-party candidate,” Margaret writes. “Trump’s environmental policies were disastrous the first time around. Eight years closer to a climate tipping point, [they would be even worse](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/16/climate/trump-epa-regulation.html?campaign_id=54&emc=edit_clim_20240721&instance_id=129259&nl=climate-forward®i_id=17059472&segment_id=172748&te=1&user_id=ceb5062ca8bea55a94044448ea5aab57) — by four billion tons of greenhouse gasses, according to [an analysis by CarbonBrief](https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-trump-election-win-could-add-4bn-tonnes-to-us-emissions-by-2030/?utm_term=668fbc64910751aef7926d1274d797ac&utm_campaign=DownToEarth&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&CMP=greenlight_email). And the E.P.A., which protects the air we breathe and the water we drink from the worst environmental excesses of industry, [is again in Mr. Trump’s](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/29/climate/epa-trump-election.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare) cross hairs,” she adds.

“Yeah but what has the planet ever done for *me*?” – morons
Biden’s White House has been far from perfect but the IRA is a huge climate bill that is just now picking up steam. For example, the tax credits for things like induction stoves is run through each state. Ohio’s program is going through the approval process and will come online in early 2025. Momentum is really important. Trump will likely kill every program in the IRA. He can simply tell his secretary of energy to stop approving programs and sending checks. It’ll then get tied up in courts for years.
Edit:
The above is just a tiny example. There are calls to eliminate the EPA. Judges are currently trying to gut the clean water and clean air acts. In fact the scotus has already begun the process by saying the clean water act doesn’t apply to most seasonal wetlands. If trump wins, the older justices can retire and 45 year old radical justices will take their place.
