  1. >Ms Morris added: “Historically people think that if you pay more, you’ll get a longer life out of the garment.

    >“We found no correlation between price and durability. It doesn’t mean that if you go out and buy something really cheap it will last forever, and vice versa. We are simply saying that there is no correlation between the two”.

We really need to do something about clothes durability. There’s a huge backlash against “fast fashion” and rightly so, but if a £150 pair of jeans can’t outlast a £15 pair then it’s not just budget brands like Primark who are cutting corners and making disposable clothing. Perhaps an independent test like the University of Leeds one should become compulsory and garments given a lifespan label?

  2. So were these *both* pairs of Primark jeans at different price points?

It’s important to know if the price increase of fashion is due to branding and aesthetics or actual rugged and quality craftsmanship (which is also ignoring environmental and ethical differences that can account for price – whilst they may cost *us* more *money* up front and immediately, the cost the *environment* less harm in the long run, and afford better wages for those involved in their making).

I think it would be more fitting to compare a £5 pair of Primark jeans against *both* a £150 pair of Primark jeans and a £150 pair of Nudie jeans (who also offer free lifetime repairs similar to Patagonia’s guarantee.) with an explanation of the different weights and fabric of the denim (a 16oz 100% cotton pair with selvedge will last longer than a similarly priced pair of 12oz jeans with stretch).

I also think a person buying a pair of Nudie jeans at that price point for their durability and craftsmanship may be better positioned to understand the proper care guides than someone buying Primark jeans at that price point as a fashion statement, which would effect longevity)

  3. Every pair of jeans I go through within a year because my legs rubbing together

  4. Haven’t even read the article because it’s not needed. Humans and fashion don’t care about durability when it comes to jeans because jeans are largely a fashion statement in how they look and fit.

We can all tell a cheap pair from a nice pair.

  5. I buy all my jeans On Vinted.

Got 4 pairs of Levis 501 for a combined £65. All basically in new condition.

One pair is £90 brand new.

  6. I love the fit of Levi 512’s but I literally have a stack of 5-6 different 512’s in a cupboard all with crotch holes.

If anyone can recommend men’s jeans with a similar fit to Levi 512’s it’d be greatly appreciated!

  7. They tested this on Brainiac years ago and found the same thing

  8. Only wear Japanese salvaged denim jeans, I have jeans that are over 10 years old and still going strong, heavyweight well made denim will last ages. (Mostly Edwin brand but a couple of Nudies as well)

  9. Primani jeans are great. Always used to buy branded stuff but primark fit well, last, are cheap and have a great range of colours and styles.

  10. The best jeans I found were from Next, they last ages for me.

  11. The more expensive the garment the more gullible the wearer.

  12. The premise is nonsense. It’s perfectly normal for expensive items.to be made from finer material and require careful treatment.
