That’s not a “bad” boy that’s a very damaged boy who in turn wrecked the life of another. What about the parents or the older brothers influence? God knows what the authorities might have discovered if it wasn’t nearly 20 years ago.

I know it’s the barrister’s job to defend his client still made my skin crawl the way he’s acting like 15 year olds are incapable of realising rape is bad. Like.. that’s a teenager, right and wrong is very obvious by that point for the vast majority. Crazy defence
I was only in Dadreen/Louisburgh at the weekend, small enough spot where everyone knows everyone else. Fair play to the victims for coming forward in both cases, what on earth happened to that family to end up like this..
4 lousy feckin years doesn’t seem like justice
Saw Dylan Gallagher on the news, speaking outside the court and thought he was very brave, and I wish him nothing but the best. I hope his strength means other victims who are keeping their own abuse secret are feeling more empowered to speak up.
I understand that justice needs to be served but we need to look at international best practice and see a way forward.
Convicting people who are now adults for crimes committed as children seems wrong. Therapeutic intervention was needed. It should always raise a red flag in terms of behaviour or welfare when a child abuses another. Having said that, my thoughts are with the victims and family network. This stuff is earth shattering.

A lack of maturity doesn’t turn someone into a rapist. Disgusting that he’ll be walking free in two years
