Just implement the “Legion Etrangiere” concept, giving wannabe immigrants the citizenship if they serve in the military and bam we solved the migration issue and the manpower issue in one swift move
toghether with the military training they also get education and introduction in the local culture with some lessons in traditions and customs
people that finish the service then are educated, integrated and ready to enter the job market/create jobs on their own bolstering the economy
(this model could be implemented in all of the EU distributing the migrants to each nation to fullfill their Legion quota until we get United European Army)

I’m currently a conscript. I hate it. Hate wet feet, crawling in mud, asshole officers, being treated like shit. But, Sweden needs conscription, and military service is one of my many duties. And as such; I must help partake in the defense of my nation. No regrets.

Its like paying taxes, nobody wants to do it so everyone is compelled to do it for the common good.
Could probably motivate people to join the military if there were any tangible benefits to doing so
I mean an anti nationalist sentiment in most western countries doesn’t bode well for military recruitment to start, add onto that the crap pay, why would I join to fight for a country that’s done everything to make my life worse, corrupt politicians? A population that seems to hate each other and is deeply divided? A government that’s made my area and life worse consistently throughout my whole life?

Also, seeing how much my government fucked us over the last years…. Yeah not really giving me the motivation to risk my life for them.
Maybe if education was cheaper or free, housing market was better, and we wouldn’t let some farmers bully us into giving up hard work to reduce emissions I’d think differently about it.
If you don’t go participate in US’s oversea shenanigans you don’t need a large army, just the skeleton.
When shit is going to happen you have warnings years prior; You can start requiring military service, later when in war conscripts.
