NATO referendum goes on Finland’s parliamentary agenda

  1. It’s joining a queue of 23 other referendum initiatives apparently. It’s looking like 2024 at the earliest before it can be discussed in parliament.

  2. Putin said there would be “grave consequences” for joining NATO if you are on his border. Georgia called it a bluff. Ukraine said “we are not Georgia, we are Ukraine, a lot stronger, and we surely have Western help”, called the bluff. Now my brother told me “Finland is not Ukraine, they are a lot stronger, and absolutely will have Western help”. If they call it a bluff, let’s hope it really is a bluff, because, unlike with Ukrainians, Putin threatened everyone else with nukes. Do Finnish people want to risk it just for “haha, Putin, now you have even more NATO on your borders, hehehe”?

  3. Putin: if Finland and Sweden get into NATO there will be consequences

Finland: NOW I’M GONNA GET INTO NATO EVEN HARDER

  4. That’s not how it works, internet. The petition got 50000 signatures which means, by Finnish legislation, the question will be handled by the Parliament, in time. It doesn’t mean at this stage that it will go any further than that.

  5. Not to be a buzzkiller, but it isnt unusual for a citizens initiative to be basically ignored by the parliament, even if it gets on the agenda. (Fuck Russia etc, just saying)
