Saved you a click: Following Donald Trump’s election victory, Russia has expressed confidence in its position regarding the Ukraine war. Putin congratulated Trump and praised him for his “courageous” behavior during last summer’s assassination attempt, while also noting Trump’s stated desire to restore relations with Russia. During his campaign, Trump had boldly claimed he could end the Ukraine-Russia war “in one day” through negotiations with both leaders.
The reaction within Russia has been mixed, with some officials like Alexander Dugin and Konstantin Malofeyev celebrating the potential for victory and global realignment, while others remain cautious. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized they have no illusions about Trump and will continue pursuing their military objectives in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Zelensky has quickly moved to congratulate Trump and express optimism about future U.S. leadership, despite Trump’s previous criticisms of U.S. support for Ukraine.
They also saw an imminent win when they first invaded. That didn’t pan out, and the election won’t change that.
The reality is, that even without us support, Europe will step up because it is in their own survival interest to. Seriously, the Russians have been very open about the fact that after Ukraine comes the baltics and Poland. Poland alone has enough power to stop the Russians if they truly, truly want to. I did not vote for Trump, but if he withdraws support, it may be a blessing in disguise as Europe actually has to step up and take care of their own backyard for once.
What a weird world.
Their definition of victory seems a little off to me. They have no hope of reaching kyiv and have expended 70 years worth of military hardware development, faced a massive loss in revenue from exports, lost 500 000 -700 000 able bodied men, lost an additional 300 000 who fled the country, exacerbating their demographic crisis, are now facing the highest interest rates in the world and are unable to repair or replace their infrastructure. Even if they some how reached kyiv tomorrow and the war stopped they wouldn’t recover from this for years.
I’m reminded in history of Pyrrus, who said “one more victory like this, and i shall be ruined!”
What victory? Occupied territories will have resistance just like Northern Ireland did for decades. Russian assets will be under relentless guerilla attack.
American betrayal
Wait… Fox News told me that Russia wanted Kamala to win… That Putin was helping her team not Trump. So why does Putin now think it was great Trump won and that they just won the war? I don’t get it…
So if you actually click the link, the title is based on one tweet from a Russian philosopher
Ok
Ryan MacBeth (not sure of his credentials, so take with a grain of salt) has a different opinion.
TLDW – Putin is in no position to end the war, even if he got his stated goals: Luhansk and Donetsk. Between the small recession that historically happens when a major war ends and Russia’s economic situation, there could be serious unrest.
On top of that, he believes that Russia isn’t after resources – he’s after defensible borders because he thinks the west is a threat. Meaning he needs everything up to Moldova (carpathian mountains), then the minor Baltic states (Baltic sea border) and finally Poland (small mountain range on the south west). Instead of 1000s of miles to protect, there would only be about 200.
So he thinks it’s within the realm of possibility that when Putin says “no” to Trump’s peace plan of conceding just the occupied territory, Trump gets aggrieved and decides to start supplying Ukraine again. Trump is nothing, if not vindictive.
That’s why they’ve been protecting, supporting and investing in Trump for so long.
Trump’s top priority is to end the war so he can resume making business with corrupt oligorcs.
How is this not a betrayal of Ukraine and Europe by the American people? You’ve rendered Ukraine’s whole resistance and sacrifice as a nation pointless, and opened up the war front for Russia’s further invasions into Europe.
Thanks, America.
The country with the biggest territory and a demographic crisis sending 700000 young men to death in exchange for a couple hundred kilometers hardly sounds like winning to me. In fact, they sound like fools.
Of course they do. Putin’s cock holster was just elected president
We’ll see about that…
Putin’s puppet. Making Russia Great Again.
Such a small hands move to let Russia win. Piss tapes are real.
Peace entails that both parties are content with the situation. I simply cannot see that either a) Putin gives up occupied territory, including Crimea, without a hitch, b) Ukraine settles by giving up occupied territory.
US has the leverage, and if Trump thinks that Ukraine are being unreasonable by not giving occupied territory to Putin, he’ll cut all or parts of the funding to Ukraine. It seems like his first conditions are that people needs to stop dying, and sure, that’s a good thing, but leaving either party not content with result, it’ll only be a temporary truce – and that’s not peace.
Fuck you russian presidents.
Kinda wonder if Biden should just lift the restrictions on Ukraine using US weapons on Russian territory as an “F it” move. Let Ukrainian forces cause as much damage as possible before US support withdrawals next year.
Trump adviser already talking about needing Ukraine to cede the land it’s already lost to Russia, ie Crimea as it’s not a US priority and Zalensky isn’t serious.. pretty much Putins puppets..
Ukraine must ignore US and Europe needs to step up.
That’s the same guy who thought he’d win the war in a few days. Even just with the EU Ukraine can hold Russia at bay and the US needs the EU for NATO vs China a lot more than the EU needs the US against Russia’s little 2 trillion dollar economy and 150 million population with 1980s technology.
The US recovered from the pandemic faster and anybody with a brain knew Biden inheriting the pandemic recovery would mean a decent change for election loss on the next cycle. So the plan has probably always been the US buys Europe time to ramp up both their own domestic military and aid to Ukraine.
Ukraine only got about 125 billion in aid per year and the EU is a 20 trillion GDP economy along with several other nations outside the EU sending aid.
There’s no real reason US funding is required, but without it the US will lose military contracts to EU domestic production. If Trump ends sanctions on Russia, he puts US oil and gas contracts in jeopardy with no upside for the US.
Plus Russia wants to be allies with China and Trump wants a trade war with China if not just about every nation he can remember the name of.
It’s a giant clusterfuck of conflicting ideas coming from Trump. Drill baby drill, but then give up gas and oil leverage and demand? A trade with against China while trying to be friends with an invading country and piss of European one of best export and import markets. And then mass deportation to drive up food, housing and all kinds of other domestic services.
Joe should have Putin ‘taken care of’ before Trump assumes office.
When you have to use North Koreans because you are out of men and your country is on the brink of falling apart, you know your are fucked
That’s possibly the most clickbait title I have ever seen
Lmao ask the USA how that went with Iraq/Afghanistan. You simply cannot occupy territories anymore. Gorilla warfare is underestimated. If a powerhouse like the USA pulled out of Iraq/Afghanistan and drained significant resources doing so… how the hell is a broke ass Russia going to occupy Ukraine? Ukraine has a stronger willpower then Iraq/Afghanistan and are much more capable.
Or at least something that Putin can point to and save face.
I think the major point is that Putin invaded a country and got away with it.
It’s not about Russia or America. It’s about Putin and Trump. Nations are tools for the billionaire class and their tools. Victory and loss is measured in different terms at this scale.
Why wouldn’t Ukraine feel they are in a desperate position and engage in a full counterattack on Russia before January? Serious question, not trying to ask a stupid question although maybe it is.
Another triumph in American diplomacy and betrayal.
Huffing a lot of hopium in the Kremlin, I see.
Yup, because they know he’s a dumbo and can be easily exploited and manipulated.
