My neighbour keeps complaining (shouting at me from her window) that I am leaving public scooters (Lime, Tier, Boi) on the sidewalk. I read online that parking scooters is allowed on the sidewalk as long as there is at least 1.5m still left for pedestrians. It kinda seem like there is, but there's a pedestrian crossing (right side of the image) and abumper that also acts as pedestrians crossing (on the left side of the image). There's also this designated parking spot on the sidewalk that I try not to block. Is it possible that she owns the entire sidewalk and not just the designated parking? Am I allowed to park there? Anyone else experienced a similar dispute?

  1. These public scooters are shit. They are always in the way, because people just put them everywhere, and the drivers don’t care about traffic laws or other people

They should have been made illegal at day 1

  2. Actually, it looks like you’re on the left, at least from this point of view.

  3. That should not be tolerated at all. Others are using the way too, you know.

  4. Rules are same for e–scooters as for bikes.

You can park same as bikes. I strongly suggest that you think very carefully about blind pedestrians, wheelchair users and prams when you park them. If your neighbours complain you should come to a mutually satisfactory solution by concensus in my opinion.

You cannot ride them on the trottoir at all, that is illegal and police can and will fine you.

An ETH study shows that rental e–scooters unexpectedly actually increase CO2 emmissions but owning a e–bike reduces CO2 emmissions.

  5. There are 2 sides to the story. Rules (where you are probably right) and on the other hand common sense and decency. Those things are a plague for the blind, disabled, parents with strollers, and public safety in general. I‘d shout at you as well, but i am also a member of r/buenzli

  6. No, You’re not because all parked vehicles, from this particular perspective, would be on the left!

  7. How about where the motor scooter parks? There is enough space and the moto scooter is not allowed to park there! (For those which are confused. Do some geo guessing and you will know what I am talking about).

There is also a lot of space at the next intersection.

  8. Knowing that sidewalk quite well, it is not that wide… Taking into consideration that a church is situated just opposite (attracting older, oftentimes less mobile folks) and that the buros of the Blinden-Bund (for blind people) is situated about 250 meters down the road, I would say that parking on the sort of square with all the bike racks about 100 m down the road by the Coop could be a satisfactory solution for everyone involved.
