Brexit shaves off record £20bn from UK exports in one year alone with imports from EU also dropping

  1. Headlines: “Brexit!!!!!” Copy: impact from local restrictions due to covid and global supply chain disruptions. Hmm. CityAM hoping you only read the headline.

  2. Wait, no. I specifically heard from the not-biased-at-all Brexit ~~Optimism~~ Opportunities Minister that Brexit had very little impact on trade. He wouldn’t lie to me.

  3. It’s funny because the majority only voted for it to see less brown people around.

Those who orchestrated it are coining it in, squirreling their money away. While BigWhoever66 still has no job and still sees brown people around.

  4. > There will be no downside to Brexit, only a considerable upside.

    David Davis, 10 October 2016.

  5. yes! this is what we wanted! putting the GREAT back in GREAT BRITAIN! stopping those illegals from stealing our jobs!

    oh wait… *”shaves off”?*

  6. Pretty sure the sanctions proposed against Russia right now are less severe than the self inflicted economic sanction which is Brexit.

  7. I’m curious how they’re able to tell apart the loss of trade from Brexit vs Covid because by this logic we lost £0 to covid and £20bil to Brexit, which just doesn’t seem right.

  8. It’s goes against these comments but this is very short term thinking to prove that Brexit is a disaster. If a story such as this came out, with a bigger number, over several years of data, I would be more inclined to believe it. It’s simply too short term

People commenting about “how they knew” etc will take any scrap to feed their own beliefs

    Time will tell

  9. So, what you’re saying is that Jacob Rees Mogg is a liar? I refuse to believe it. Nanny would be most upset if she found out the little Lord was telling porkies.

  10. This is not the Brexit people voted for. Johnson did not “get Brexit done”.

“you’ve been done, mate” is a phrase that means swindled or robbed.

Johnson managed to “get Brexit swindled”. He robbed the UK.

  11. That headline is highly misleading. Exports to the EU was down £20bn, or 12%. Exports to other countries was down 6%.

It is reasonable to assume therefore that at least 6% of that 12% was due to some other major global event that’s happened in the past 20 months (what that even is has eluded me… City AM certainly cannot remember either as it was barely mentioned aside from the last paragraph)

So basically it’s £10bn. Brexiteers will argue it’s less, remainers more. But what is certain is it’s not £20 billion. It takes quite some mental gymnastics to get to the headline. It also seems City AM thinks one year is twenty months now given they said £20bn in one year in the title and then £20bn in twenty months in the first paragraph.

I am so fucking sick of the misuse of statistics by both sides of the debate, even all these years later. I thought the referendum was bad enough with stuff like the bloody £350 million but even six years later we still have Rees-Mogg saying it’s barely made a difference (wrong) and journalists like this saying it’s £20 billion (wrong). When will our journalists and politicians actually be truthful and not deliberately misleading?

I’m so fucking sick of sitting in the middle of the circus, watching monkeys on either side of me sling increasingly sloppy shit at each-other

  12. Lol, this fucking subreddit… top three articles Brexit brexit Brexit… oh yes this subreddit is totally United Kingdom redditors and certainly not EU larpers like the other Ireland and Scotland subreddits and their US redditors. Jesus this is getting so old, this is as much a representation of UK redditors as a dog represents a cat. Look at the moderators, none are from the UK… says everything you need to know.
