  1. Most Iraqi women don’t get a say in who or when they marry. They just lowered the age men are openly allowed to have sex with girls to 9.

  36. The age is horrifying but I find the term “age of consent” even more insidious since they basically aren’t given a choice in many segments of that culture. It would be more honest to describe it as “the age at which force is legal”.

  48. Literally every single Iraqi vehemently opposes this, this is actually a law introduced to distract people from a much worse second law being introduced along with this. The second one is so much more terrible than this, if you can imagine.

    They are going to gradually forgive and release the former ISIS fighters and grant them pardons. already thousands of terrorists have been forgiven and released(not sure if it’s under this law, but it has happened).

    The age of consent law is largely irrelevant and not a single Iraqi supports this, keep your eyes and ears open, they are granting clemency to terrorists and using this age of consent bullshit as a distraction
