1. Photos were taken during the departure of the air defence group from the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, “Khartiia”, which is protecting the Ukrainian sky.

   “At first, they [Russian drones] were flying around here quite boldly. But later our unit and adjacent battalions appeared, and we started to chase them off effectively and shoot them down well, so they began to fly much less,” says a soldier with the callsign “Greek”.

   Each crew has designated territories that they monitor around the clock while constantly moving. Sometimes, they go to specific locations to hunt for Iranian “Shahed” drones that attack Ukraine almost daily. “We are always ready and do not let our guards down. Once the war is over, then we can relax. Everything is prepared beforehand, and it takes us 5-10 minutes to get ready while the car warms up.”

   “Greek” has been here for a few months, having previously served in the Donetsk direction. Before that, he was a gas-electric welder at a plant. When asked why he chose air defence, he says, ”I don’t want this to reach the places where peaceful civilians live.”
