“Europe must carve bold paths to make the European economy more competitive, while also strengthening social cohesion. It is time for us, as Europeans, to finally organize our energy independence and set in motion our common defense,” stated Mitsotakis, adding that these subjects were discussed at the recent Budapest EU Council.

Mitsotakis also congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his victory, stating that Greek-American relations are above party lines.

“The orientation of Greek-American relations is national, not partisan, and given the strong presence of the Greek community in the United States, I am confident that the relations between our two countries will remain stable and productive under the new Trump presidency,” he stated.

During the past week, key European leaders such as German Chancellor Scholz and French President Macron have highlighted the need for increased European cooperation in defense.
