Even if the conference wasn’t tainted by fossil fuel deal brokering, it’s hard to take seriously an annual talk fest that flies thousands of people across the globe when the meetings could be held online.
Very difficult.
Out of every country you could have picked, Azerbaijan is probably among the top 5 worst places you could have held this summit. A country currently committing ethnic cleansing and the destruction of what remains of the Armenian culture left in Nagorno Karabakh and one of the world’s largest producers of natural gas.
If COVID proved anything, it showed that people could mass conference digitally on ZOOM… All these stupid conferences with private jets around the world only exist to give people a vacation…
If they cared about the climate they would do more digitally without having to fly.
Is this that meeting where everybody flies in on a private jet, not much gets done, then they all fly home on their private jets?
