Estonia are one of the 17 competing entries at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Madrid, Spain this coming Saturday. Their artist Annabelle will perform “Tänavad” in slot number 2 during the show.

Nice 2023

Estonia are the 41st country to participate at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and so far the latest competing country to debut. Their history does slightly predate their first appearance. They broadcasted the first two contests in 2003 and 2004 without intent of participating due to financial reasons.

Earlier interest arose in the lead up to the 2016 contest, when talks were ongoing for the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to all either return or debut to the Junior contest. This, however, never lead to anything at the time and Latvia and Lithuania have both remained out of the contest ever since.

After a lengthy regroup, Estonian broadcaster ERR finally made a debut last year for the contest in Nice. They were announced on the official list of participants and then on the very same day they announced their internally selected entrant Arhanna who performed the song “Hoiame kokku“.

At the contest in Nice, Arhanna finished in 15th place of the 16 competing entries. Following their debut entry they announced a second appearance in May 2024, however they switched up their selection process instead picking through the show “Tähtede lava”.
