For those asking why “where you come from?” is racist, compare the black and white girls’ responses.

  1. This is a video by tataki, which is run by SSR SRG.

I’m intending this to answer /u/Waltekin’s [question](https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/hbyhb1/opinion_about_racism/). The “Where do you come from?” question itself might not be intrinsically racist, but what happens is that if you aren’t Caucasian, then people won’t believe you and will ask further, and as the black girl says, unfortunately people will make it clear you aren’t really Swiss.

There’s nothing wrong with asking about someone’s origins after you know them, but asking them for their origins after they tell you they’re Swiss, because they’re darker skinned or whatever is racist (in the sense of discrimination not racial superiority) both in the small way, but also in the large way because it makes it much harder for non-caucasian immigrants to feel Swiss.

  2. I don’t know. I am a foreigner, in my field 90% are foreigners, so it’s only natural for me to ask where people are from. If they are from an cool place, I want to hear about it, I want to show interest.

  3. There’s nothing wrong with asking that. Now if the question is being obsessive yeah, but I’ve never seen it being that much of an issue.
