LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A Sunday afternoon double feature event focused on educating the Coulee Region about the environment.

La Crosse’s Habitat for Humanity partnered with local environmental organizations and Rivoli Theatre to host a screening for two documentaries, Kiss the Ground and Common Ground.

Organizers say the films are about the climate crisis and regenerative agriculture. The two documentaries also try to inspire people to take action against climate change.

Habitat’s Community Outreach Director Natalie Heneghan said it’s important for the organization to think about sustainability throughout their projects.

“At Habitat we don’t just build houses, we’re building communities and neighborhoods. And we like to say if we’re not building houses that people want to live in or houses that are in safe, healthy, resilient places, why would we build those houses at all?”

During the event, Habitat also highlighted local environmental efforts.

Two-hundred people signed up for Sunday’s screenings.

The event was free to attend, but all donations collected will benefit Habitat’s ReNew the Block program.
