  1. First of all, not a desert, but steppe, which is a big part of Crimea

Second, the whole shoreline is more than livable and was occupied long before Greeks established first cities there. There are small (~10k) towns that can trace their history for more that 2000 years back

  2. Lol what is this ridiculous post, I’m half Ukrainian but the claims posted here are just laughable.
Crimea was definitely not a desert as the other comment already noted, but claiming it was a worthless territory is absurd.
Crimea hosts one of the most important warm water ports – Sevastopol, which was crucial for most of Russian history, as almost all major ports froze during the winter.
Crimea was always a strategic location, and there’s a reason why the French-British coalition of the Crimean war decided for it to be the major theater of war.

I’m of course not justifying the Russian annexation of Crimea, but claiming falsehoods isn’t bringing us anywhere.

  3. If you check wiki, you will know that in 1953 it had more than million inhabitants. It was important resort and had Sevastopol, important soviet fleet base. Stop lying.

  4. Russian propaganda post. Crimea isn’t worth maintaining so might as well just give it to the Russians guys! The war is settled!

  5. Always fought over. The Clash said:
    “From the 100 years war
    To the Crimea
From the lance, and the musket and the Roman spear,
To all of the men who have stood with no fear
In the service of the King.”

  6. Stalin maybe tried to make it a desert, and to remove the inhabitants from history by starving and deporting them.

  7. Ah great news. If its such a burden, Putin should be happy to give it back to Ukraine, right? World peace can be achieved by these Kremlin bots tomorrow if their rethoric gets even more brain-dead.

  8. Jews wanted to establish a state heavily focused on agriculture in Crimea, so how can it be a desert? Are they stupid?

  9. The only relevant point is that Crimea wasn’t Russia’s to give. It belongs to the Crimean Tartars who where deported by the hundreds thousands in 1944 and forward. The Crimean Tartars support Ukraine, that’s all we need to know. I expect with time they can be allowed to return and given some kind of self-rule.

  10. Go play some total war and find out Crimea hosted quite a lot of nations and cultures.

  11. How is any of this relevant ?

Ukraine’s borders were legally recognized by the entire international community – including Russia – in their 1991 boundaries.

Russia didn’t have any territorial disputes with Ukraine under Yeltsin, and under Putin until 2014 when his criminal puppet was ran out of office by the Ukrainians.

Crimea was just an excuse to punish Ukraine for getting rid of Putin’s crony.

If Russia can claim Crimea, then Germany should be able to claim East Prussia, Finland can claim Viipuri, and China can claim the Russian Far East.

  12. Either putin or trump bots trying to ease europeans into accepting that crimea will be considered a part of russia.🤢

  13. Ukraine exists since 1993. Heavy Burgen was it for USSR to make it livable.

In Ukraine in 1993 right after USSR collapsed, was most industrialized country in Europe. Germany was far behind.

Ukraine had no government in the Soviet period. The whole USSR was governed centrally in Moscow.

    Think about this…

  14. Who assigned the “Historical” tag to this post? 🤦

  15. ukraine should just give out the lands putin occupies. waste of resources to capfure them back

  16. This is a Russian talking point

Russia: you know, Ukraine doesnt actually want Ukraine, let us have it
