A government that takes very large sums of Russian money in the form of donations, perhaps?
Well, it’s not just Russian money is it.
Our whole political system is bought.
The very expensive properties are efficient for launderers
The nature of London’s property market, which is dominated by freeholders with incredibly valuable assets they need to fill, and are politically well connected.
But it’s a joke because the hoops normal people have to jump through are massive. My lender pulled our pants down because my FIL worked for an overseas government even though my wife wasn’t on the mortgage. And crypto investors are pretty much frozen out.
I suppose most of these wealthy overseas investors have a company or two they can point to as a legitimate source.
Considering our history, is it really surprising that we’re the baddies again?
The reason is willing accomplices in both government and the financial sector.
