‘If cattle were dying, not humans, there would be action’: Citizens’ assembly on drugs delayed

  1. Sad to see citizens assemblies being used to essentially put an issue beyond the scope of the current government – particularly given that this was an issue the Green Party campaigned on and got into the Programme for Government.

I think it’s time for the opposition to put down a motion of no confidence in Frank Feighan. There’s been no substantial progress from him in his brief, and he’s shown that he doesn’t really understand the issues at this stage.

It would be the first motion of confidence in a Junior Minister, as far as I know, but there isn’t anything preventing the opposition from putting one down. It would also raise the issue massively on the political agenda and force the Greens (some of whom are genuinely committed to this issue) to either apply pressure internally in government for changes or back a Minister in whom they can’t possibly have confidence.

  2. I would love for the opposition to table a motion of no confidence in Frank Feighan over this. The dinosaur has done nothing and clings on to backwards beliefs that have resulted in us having one of the highest overdose rates in Europe. His position should have gone to a member of the Green Party who actually want to work on it. Bobby “Wormtongue” Smyth whispering anti-drug reefer madness bullshit in Feighan’s ear isn’t helping anything either

  3. Shameful.

The only thing they seem worried about is being able to vote from home. I’ll remember FFG at the polls for years to come and I hope everyone else will too.

  4. They won’t make this obvious change they could have made any day in the last 5 or so decades.

Don’t expect them to do anything about any crisis or problem other than planing for themselves.

  5. Some of the worst drug overdose epidemics occur with legal drugs like in the US pain relief epidemics.
