Why on Earth does Trump want to cancel the CHIPS Act which would be a gift to China?

  1. I’ll believe it when I see it. Biden and Trump want the same thing when it comes to domestic manufacturing.

  2. The simplest answer is he makes it a priority to undo as many accomplishments of his predecessor as possible. He did it with Obama – withdraw from Paris accord, end DACA, attempt to repeal ACA, reverse worker protections (e.g. overtime, discrimination), reversed Cuban policy, backed out if Iran nuclear deal. He’s petty and vindictive enough to do it even if it’s unpopular or could damage the country. He also is incapable and/or unwilling to understand the geopolitical and economic implications of Taiwan policy and CHIPs.

  3. He is a narcissistic psychopath, there is really no reason other than that it wasn’t him who signed the act, but Biden.

  4. Yeah this blog from some random person will surely know!

  5. We’re really trying to be behind the rest of the world.

  6. Trump needs credit for everything. Therefore he will undo all successful Biden policies. This is what he did in his previous term. That’s why he had the Republicans kill the bipartisan border bill last year. Capitalism wins over Democracy.

  7. Probably because the companies that receive tax dollars fooking suck and or are foreign. Intel is a poorly run company and fired 15% of their entire work force after the chips act. Samsung is not American. Sk hynix is not American. TSMC is not American. TI and Micron are the only 2 that are worthy.

  8. I can’t believe people still believe that protectionist measures work at all. One of the few things I’m aware that trump is doing right is exactly this. Except he compensates by putting tariffs on other stuff…

  9. If it’s anything like NAFTA he is going to “repeal and replace” with effectively the same thing except one carve out for Wisconsin like “Biogas” subsidies  just so he gets credit.

  10. The chips act will probably benefit foreign companies since the US is so behind with all of that.

  11. Government programs should be judged by their outcomes, not their good intentions.

    Chips Act was a mess.

  12. I don’t think he would cancel the CHIPS act as that directly benefits China…
