I need your help with translating the hand written text. All these pictures are taken during the finnish continuation war from a panzer division soldier, all except one is unique and probably never shown before. I've added all the information that I know, every picture is commented with number and text.

Warning, the album contains contains both dead soldiers and civilians.

Thanks in advance 🙂

  1. Vappu Paateneessa means first of May holiday in Padany, Russia (Paatene in Finnish).

The one from 41 reads Riihimäki, a city in Southern Finland.

    edit:

not super confident but I think #10 says “Viestipojat menossa linjalle X – Y” ~ “Messenger boys about to depart on line X – Y” where the variables are probably cities I can’t read.

-#18b Ryssien ampuma Karjalainen ~ Karelian shot by ruskies. Can’t make out the last word

-#17b can’t make out the city or the name, but it says “Battlefield in x”, then signed his name I can’t read, and last line is his rank “majuri” which corresponds to field officer or something like that.

    -#21b

    NCO. J. Aho

    Lance corporal. M. Raumala

    Lance corporal. V. Lehtomaa

    Private M. Savolainen

    Fell (died)

    Private <can’t read the name>

    grievously wounded

In this house in aerial bombing, Paatene, date, clock 05.15 on the morning

  2. The faded texts in the picture are last names most likely, bottom two seem to be Taskinen and Asikainen, which are finnish last names. The text in the other pictures is a really old type of finnish cursive that I’m not that good at reading unfortunately.. Buuut, if you can take detailed pictures of just the texts, I could send them to my mom! She used to work in the postal office and at the police station as a secretary,, she’s really good at reading “poor” handwriting 😉

  3. Some of those are certainly in unsteady Russian, some seem to be too, but with words I don’t recognize – probably local places, but I can transliterate them. Need help with those?

  4. 4. Statue is Peter I in Petrozavodsk.

Last picture town is Petrozavodsk or Petroskoi in Finnish.
