  1. America’s allies and foes alike have spent the past five days speculating about what Donald Trump’s re-election will mean for their economies, security and [the world’s grinding wars](https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/09/world/analysis-trump-second-term-world-intl/index.html).

[Similar anxieties are brewing](https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/11/climate/cop29-climate-talks-trump/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=reddit) among diplomats gathering in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, on Monday for the COP29 climate talks — and for good reason: Trump has vowed to again pull the United States from the Paris Agreement, which binds nearly all the world’s countries to dramatically slash carbon pollution. Instead, he is poised to revive his “drill baby, drill” agenda to cash in on more American oil and gas.

As the Biden administration winds down, it is racing to send climate and environment funds to states and buttoning up last-minute regulations aimed at protecting the planet, one of its top climate officials said Monday.

“We still have plenty of work to do, and we have around 72 days, I think, to get it done,” said John Podesta, a senior White House adviser on clean energy who is also leading the US delegation at the UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Speaking to reporters at Baku on Monday, the first official day at COP29, Podesta said the Biden administration is “fully committed” to obligating outstanding funding under Biden’s climate law, the Inflation Reduction Act. The current administration has other major things left on its to-do list, including finalizing California’s federal waiver to set its own emissions standards and completing a federal review on US exports of liquified natural gas.

  2. It means people are animals and aren’t the spiritual/evolutionary demigods we think we are. People are idiots, and America is proving it right now. Maybe we should let dogs and cats vote, because they have as much intelligence as we do. God bless America. What a crock that is. If “God” created us all, why would one country mean more to “Him”?

  3. Well that part is settled, humans were never going to survive 1 year of doing nothing and increased pollution, now there will be at least 4 so humans are extinct in the next hundred years or so that’s no longer a question.

  4. Here’s a newsflash……Trump, like many Americans, don’t give a flying duck about the rest of the planet. As long as they are rich and prosperous, they’ll do what they’ve always done, what’s in their best interests only.

What most Americans DON’T  realise, is the “rich and prosperous ” Americans Trump is governing for, is not most Americans,  nor is it even most of the people that voted for him.

We’ll have to wait though. It won’t be until Trump deports millions, closes the Mexican border, puts tariffs on all imported goods, and “drills, baby, drill” , that we’ll really know the effect? Who knows, he might be as full of shit as we all hope he is? Because if he follows through on ALL his promises, the world will be changed forever!

  5. If Europe had any balls they’d arm themselves, and turn their back on us here in the U.S. — work out some deals with Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Korea, and India. Figure out a way to solve the Ukraine war and put Russia in its place and work on an emissions treaty with most of the world (including China). Leave the U.S. behind the flounder. It’s what we deserve.

  6. I hate how we are being led by the whims of someone who has no empathy for the environment.

  7. Trump requires high speed, accurate (this time) acute lead poisoning; BEFORE Jan 20 2025! The US is about to become 1930s Germany, unless he is stopped.

  8. Less habitability for humans and most other lifeforms, but the planet will survive.

  9. Without a scientific miracle, the end of civilization as we know it.
