The Philippines is teaming up with Norway to advance its energy transition, focusing on LNG, decarbonization, and energy security. At the Norway-Philippines LNG Summit 2024, Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla highlighted LNG’s expanding role, noting that two new terminals in Batangas Bay will soon support gas-fired power plants.
Lotilla stressed the need to reduce methane leaks and explore cleaner options, like carbon capture and blending natural gas with greener fuels. The new terminals will supply eight million tons of LNG annually to meet rising energy needs. He also announced plans to extend the Malampaya gas field and boost local petroleum production by offering incentives to contractors.
Lotilla praised Norway’s approach to managing resources, pointing to strong regulations and a well-trained workforce as models.
