It was completely absurd. What has come over these guys lately?
They’re just doubling down after Dick was included in at least one of the 300 pictures never to be released, maybe.
This is the new norm.
Officials say inappropriate things, make headlines, get their story out there, and then quietly retract it.
If something’s unacceptable why fucking tweet it? I’m not surprised though. Hot headed bastards the lot of them.
They are just angry someone has rightfully criticised them, their leadership and their handling of the parties held at No 10. The Met have lost people’s trust and Khan would not be doing his job to pretend otherwise. Telling them to shape up, deal with the intolerances rife amongst staff and to regain public confidence is exactly what the Met should be told, even if they do not want to accept that as the case.
Hopefully this will start a bit of discourse about social media standards from police accounts, both official and private. Standards in the UK are so low that the folks running these accounts think this is fair game for them, which is ludicrous.
I’m in Germany, where the police have plenty of their own issues, but the social media standards are way ahead of the UK for both officers and forces. My local force wouldn’t be allowed to send this tweet out simply because it names someone who is not a police employee, regardless of the rest of the content. If they have a video of a crime that needs solving, they can only link to their official website through social media, not plaster it all over peoples feeds.
The Met has been known to have a dubious ethos forever, you can think back to the days of Scotland Yard and The Sweeney and find similar traits. Misogyny is rife, even encouraged, and racism is commonplace. It really needs to be broken up, too much of a monster organisation for something like a change of leadership to have any significant impact.
No one else considered that perhaps one of the officers on the social media team simply forgot to change accounts/didn’t realise they were on the police one? Seems far more likely than the Met deciding to go full on political, then change their mind an hour later.
