Tooting residents. If you’re wondering why there’s so much effing chaos on Tooting High Street and Upper Tooting Road it’s pipes like this going in. Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon, you’re probably next.. 😱

  1. it’s also been a nightmare due to urgent gasworks on Garratt Lane in Earlsfield, and there’s businesses complaining about roadworks on Old York Road in Wandsworth Town. I saw Wandsworth Council leader was chewing out Thames Water for their works in Wandsworth running over schedule. Pretty grim times to be a driver in the area (not that I am.)

  2. Is this Thames Water? They’ve been digging up East Ham since January last year

  3. My mums on Longley Road and I’ve heard so much from her about how bad this all is!

  4. Replacement of the water main pipe running between Balham and Collier’s Wood. The works project started several months ago and they’ve already done a couple of sections:

One dig site was about halfway between Balham and Tooting Bec stations, the other down by Collier’s Wood station, assuming either end of the same project. Those are both filled in now and they’ve dug up sections of the A24 between Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway.

The latest disruption is expected to run until mid-Dec when they claim it will be reinstated, but works resume in the New Year.

  5. Somebody should tell them that a pipe needs an hole at each end or they don’t work.

  6. They’ve nearly finished doing the same work in Newham. It’s taken them about 18 months. In fairness making the High St in East Ham inaccessible to vehicles was great.

  7. Best we let the streets flood with sewage from our crumbling Victorian infrastructure to avoid a few weeks where it takes slightly longer to drive somewhere 😛

  8. This just seemed to arrive without warning a month or so ago and turn my quite busy one way street (with a nursery and school both with busy morning and afternoon traffic) into a two way cul de sac with basically no turning circle, somewhat chaotic.

  9. That’s really excellent news considering how bad traffic already gets around South Wimbledon station

  10. People complain about this in the UK, but they wouldn’t where I’m from becuase stuff like this doesn’t happen. This is what service delivery looks like and while it’s inconvenient, it’s better than neglect and problems down the line. My home town (Johannesburg) is finding this out now with its water infrastructure
