Guys are we cooked?

  1. Tabloid forecasting rules apply, so what they mean is the temperature is going to fall and there might be a light dusting on the highest mountains in Scotland, not to be confused with ALL BRITONS TO FREEZE IN ARCTIC HYPOTHERMIC DEATH TYPHOON

  2. Remember ‘The Beast From The East’? That was a huge anticlimax where I live. The entire country was supposed to get buried under 10ft of snow or some shit. They closed all the schools and loads of offices. We had such a pathetic dusting of snow it was unreal. So maybe this will be like that!

  3. They all quote the same shitty source, the ironically named, EXACTA Weather, run by James Madden. You’ll see them in the Express, Star, Mail, GB News, the ‘LIVE’ rags and more. There’s a grift involved somewhere, just not sure what it is. Do a Google News search on Exacta Weather or James Madden Weather and look at the headlines that come up, always the same extreme hyperbole, always, and I mean always, non events.

  4. Cooked? Quite the opposite with those temperatures!

Realistically, this means it’s going to get a bit cold in remote places that routinely get a bit cold. South of the Highlands, people might have to grit their teeth and turn the central heating on. Young ladies in Newcastle will continue to spend Saturday nights tottering around in high heels and underwear.

  5. Retch plc which owns The Mirror also owns The Daily Express, the publication which used to be notorious for hyperbolic reports of extreme weather – hence you’ll now find such reports turning up in not only The Daily Express, but The Mirror, The Daily Star, and pretty much any [Cityname]Live website…

  6. I used to deliver papers when I was 13-17 and every single year either the Mirror or the Daily Express would come out with some headline about an Arctic bomb which would cause temperatures to fall to the lowest level in 100 years.

After the 2nd year when it didn’t happen and I still got up and delivered papers at 6am in the moderate winter climate I realised it was scaremongering.

  7. The top of Ben Macdhui might drop to -4 for an hour or two with a dusting of snow. If you were old and frail and up there in trainers, t shirts and shorts at 2am you might become hypothermic so “Pensioners to die in -30 degree Super-Ultra-Mega-Death-Snownado”

  8. A quick check of BBC Weather or the Met Office soon corrects the grift!!

    Met office Long Range Forecast:

Saturday 16 Nov to Monday 25 Nov
Turning more unsettled and significantly colder as we head into the weekend with low pressure probably becoming established to the east of the
UK bringing rain or showers to most regions. The heaviest and most frequent spells of rain are most likely in the north where they are likely to turn wintry, especially to the hills of Scotland, but perhaps also to lower levels as colder air digs south. The chance of any widespread or disruptive snowfall affecting more populated areas at this stage however remains low. Parts of the south may well see a fair amount of fine and dry weather. Often windy, with a chance of gales at times, especially in the north and east.
Temperatures falling below average and feeling particularly cold in the strong winds.

Tuesday 26 Nov to Tuesday 10 Dec
Signals vary in prevailing weather patterns through this period but likely more unsettled than during early November. There is a greater chance of more mobile weather patterns which would see Atlantic systems periodically move across the country. These bringing some wetter and windier interludes followed by drier periods.
Some colder interludes, especially earlier in the period, are possible but overall temperatures more likely to be around or above average.
