Greens pledge to use €7bn of Apple tax on transport projects including Metrolink if in Government

  1. A damn sight better use of the Apple windfall than giving tax breaks to landlords.

  2. It really does need to go into capital projects to get infrastructure in place.

I was really unimpressed with the idea from several parties that it would just be thrown into the housing bubble. Increasing subsidies isn’t going to solve anything. The only thing that’s going to help is hugely increasing supply. Extra subsidies on the demand side will just get absorbed into inflated rents, and I’m sure they know that. It’s just landlord subsidies, again.

The public go along with it either because they’re too thick to realise it will make no difference or they are landlords.

  3. Maybe they can ease up on the tax I pay them, if they have another source.

  4. FINALLY COMMON SENSE!!

No more short term shite that makes no difference – build for the future.

In order for this to work we MUST however get rid of our current planning system that allows anyone to object and hold our future to ransom.

  5. Watch people not vote for them and continue to complain about the lack of decent transport infrastructure in this country

  6. Greens want to spend all the apple tax money in Dublin. What a surprise.

  7. Great idea. Will be interesting to see how far over budget these proposals go.

  8. G’wan Eamon ya big ride.

I know about Rodge, but Eamon will always be the leader of my heart.

  9. But what about the landlords and property developers? Won’t somebody please think of the Vulture Funds.

  10. Nothing about their commitment to give asylum seekers own door accommodation within 6 months of arrival no?

    Wonder why?

  11. This is by far the best idea for it out of any of the political parties so far. I don’t think it can be beat. If any other party puts any ideas forward for it, and it’s not this, then that are just wrong.

  12. Sounds good but the people who actually vote won’t give a shit about this. The 65+ crew have no interest in a metro being built in 10-15 years.

  13. “And” said Little Bear “I plan to spend all of it on hallucinogenic drugs”

They’ll all pledge till their blue in the face. What makes it into a Programme for Government is entirely a different matter however

    All parties guilty of this

  14. You can be sure without the Greens Metrolink will go nowhere.

But anyway – lets get back to “unvetted men of military age” and vote for Gavan Pepper.

Another way to solve the transport crisis is to depopulate the shagging place.

  15. This honestly might be what wins my top preferences.

I am apoplectic at the suggestion of blowing that money on HTB and that horseshit, it needs to be an investment.

  16. I’d like to see more details. The UK Green’s for instance always ban on about the need for more wind, solar and public transport but then object to every planning application due to the local environmental impact. They’ve only just removed their objection to the High Speed rail link from London to Birmingham.

  17. The greens are not going to be a majority if they get back into government so you can be sure they are not going to have control of the purse strings. The only way they get projects over the line is if the majority party need a favour in terms of votes. For the greens to get a 7bn project approved they are going to need to provide a lot of favours.

  18. Is there anyone talking about changing our planning laws to allow us deliver big projects? “Allocating capital” is easy, we need something actually delivered.

We have lots of big-money projects tied up going through endless rounds of planning.

  19. I really hate to parrot a certain orange American, but if they couldn’t/wouldn’t do it when they could, why would we believe them before they promise now?

  20. > It will also include a pledge to equip 200,000 low-income homes with free solar panels

    Phenomenal

  21. Can we not just throw the entire €12bn down the money hole?

  22. Good thing the Greens have no chance in the coming election.

  23. The first election news that hasn’t put me in a bad mood.

  24. Won’t go very far when you see what it cost to build a bike shed in Ireland

  25. Dual carriageways from Ovens to the Macroom bypass & from Killarney to Tralee. Major improvements are needed on the Bandon to Clonakilty road & onto Skibbereen. Finish the Cork to Limerick motorway. More investment in a fast charging network. Free solar panels to all oaps & low income households.
