  1. Videos authenticated by *Le Monde* show the scale of the destruction of the Gaza Strip after Israel’s bombardment of the Palestinian enclave following Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023.

    The lowest estimates from researchers Corey Scher, from New York University, and Jamon Van Den Hoek, from the University of Oregon, estimate at least 58.7% of the enclave’s built-up area has been damaged or destroyed. In the particularly densely populated Gaza City area, this figure rises to 73.8%.

    In addition to Gaza’s destruction is the human toll: 43,603 people have died in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli offensive, according to figures from the Hamas-run Ministry of Health.
