edit: should have mentioned that it is US national security advisor, but the auto-mod would have deleted my post
i am heavily an environmentalist, but his point on increasing US oil and gas exports is a no-brainer
this will harm Russia more than all sanctions combined
if the price of oil barrels drops to 50 dollars , this would reduce Russian oil profits by over 70%
environmentalists can say this will be bad for climate ,but i have to say that someone will consume the oil anyway
if US doesn’t export it, Russia and Iran will
worse, those countries extract oil using less efficient methods ,resulting in higher emissions
He has a good point.
But Trump’s plan will only work if all of these conditions are met:
1. we assume Trump is not a Russian asset and will actually hold russia accountable
2. Russia agrees to stop the war PERMANENTLY and give up occupied territories/exchange for kursk (russia has already stated they will never give up crimea and donetsk)
3. Ukraine agrees to give up occupied territories and PERMANENTLY stop offensive to retake lost territories (ukraine has stated neither their constitution nor their people/military would allow this) – see the complete conflict with number 2
4. Ukraine gets an invitation to NATO/EU (countries like US with Trump and Hungary have already stated they will veto it). Ukraine has stated their intent to build nukes as this is the only guarantee to peace in Ukraine outside an EU/NATO membership
5. Russian war criminals be prosecuted under the ICC on which neither the US nor Russia are signatories
6. Kidnapped Ukranian children to be given back to Ukraine, on which Russia does not even acknowledge it’s been happening.
Basically the probably of even half these being met is close to 0%.
So in reality the likely outcome is the US is going to be gaslighting ukraine for not agreeing with Trump and then pulling all funding and support for Ukraine.
I would like to be optimistic thought and see if Trump and Waltz flips the script and pressures Putin first (instead of Zelensky) and place the burden on him to stop the war and exchange territory (which he wouldn’t do), upon which he would give exponential weapons to Ukraine and let them take their gloves off like what Waltz is implying.
Waltz also made a good point regarding the sanctions and European support.
Also just read that Mike Waltz is married to Julia Nesheiwat – a former homeland security advisor under trump.
She appears to be anti russian expansion as well and have made references to NATO combati russian arctic expansion and defeating russia’s aggression through cutting their oil revenue.
They could be good news for ukraine.
oh you sweet summer child
This is encouraging…especially the last few paragraphs. What is frustrating to me is how so many on the Right have Ukraine filed as a quagmire/stalemate. Russia is banking on the West getting fatigued…they are really hurting economically and suffering heavy casualties.
Is he really heavily against Russia? Like is this his center piece of national security? Or is this just some part of his set of believes that he might be willing to compromise on or discard it altogether?
He will do whatever dear leader tells him to do
Him being anti Russian just means he will be fired by Trump sooner than the others.
Maybe. Depends how long he lasts.
“How long, how much will that cost? What will that take? And what are our allies going to contribute? I think they should be exceeding U.S. commitments, not in parity with it.”
Europe has exceeded US spending since pretty much the start of the war.
A United States President who is very fond of saying America first gives a really bad impression when they gag on Putin’s dick every chance they get. We wouldn’t be talking about it to this day if he hadn’t given us so much to talk about over the years.
Maybe he wants to grow a spine and stop bowing down to the dictator of a failing nation. If Trump wants to be the best dictator in the world he can’t look weak.
Well things are going to get awkward with Vlad if that’s true.
So he will be the first cabinet position to go and require a more amenable replacement then.
I think we have forgotten how rapidly the Trump regime went through staffers the last time. They aren’t there to offer their opinions of strategies, they are there to do what Trump (and the russians) tell them to do.
Deviation from the party (trump) line will not be tolerated.
Viewing his appointment as a good thing for Ukraine is a [massive stretch](https://gopforukraine.com/legislator/michael-waltz/). He’ll fall in line with whatever Trump wants, as will all his advisors because that’s their job as yes men. He’s cut from the same cloth as all the other Republicans who delayed the much needed 2023 aid bill because Trump wanted it to be delayed or stopped.
Lets not get too excited too fast alright?
I will wait for some real action, those are just words and in context of other shit that MAGAs including Trump’s son say, it may not really attribute to much. MAGA cult hates Ukraine and worship Putin.
at this point the russians can release videos of trump having sex with kids on epstein’s island and few will care and nothing can be done. virtually impossible to blackmail a second term US president
