  1. Tim Hunkin is a phenomenal genius. I remember visiting an exhibition of his animatronics at Styal Mill in the 80s and I still have one of his books here with me now.

Novelty Automation, his arcade/gallery in London, is absolutely great too: https://www.timhunkin.com/control/o_whereto_see.htm

He has remastered his _Secret Life of Machines_ series and put it up on Youtube, alongside new documentaries on how to make art like him: https://www.youtube.com/@timhunkin1

  2. Honestly, that zimmer one is a neat idea. I spent some time on a zimmer after a coma. It’s a whole other world. I went from being a being a dude who cycled 100 miles a week to not being able to stand up from the couch.

For me it was temporary, I’ve learned to walk again since but it’s gave me some empathy and perspective for the guys and gals out there who are living like that as a permanent condition.

  3. That place is great and mental. Hope you had fish n chips and did the Adnams Tour

  4. I stumbled across this by accident last year. Wonderfully British!

  5. The first time I went, many years ago, I was telling my wife all about Tim Hunkin and how much I loved him in the Sunday Times every week when a cupboard door opened and he came out holding a screwdriver.

  6. Sigh. Thanks….now THAT jazz song will be in my head all-day, with images of dancing fridges and flying vacuum cleaners!!

  7. > discover the true Robert Maxwell

That reference will be lost on many, now

  8. The one where you play chicken with the dog is my favourite. I love that they are fun games, but also works of art.

  9. Ha! I’m glad these are all still there, used to love them as a kid.

  10. This place is so good! Both the engineering and wit that goes into each of the amusements is great. Highly recommend if you’re ever nearby.
