I don’t know what air Shell execs think they will be breathing in the years to come.
Gotta love that free market and how it’s always allowed to poison us and our planet.
The Hague Court of Appeal appears to be currently located [about 10 m above sea level](https://whatismyelevation.com/map?lat=52.08201&lng=4.3294&title=Prins%2520Clauslaan%252060,%2520The%2520Hague,%2520Netherlands) and the surrounding district [about 2 m](https://en-gb.topographic-map.com/map-p5v14/The-Hague/?zoom=12) above sea level on average. Assuming we do not get significant melting of Greenland and Antarctica, then [I estimate we are on track for about 1.5 m of sea level rise by 2100](https://old.reddit.com/r/climatechange/comments/1gnfgdc/satellite_measurements_from_1993_to_2023_show/). (The IPCC AR6 estimates are certainly incorrect.) Fortunately the Netherlands can prepare for [3 m of sea level rise](https://www.dutchnews.nl/2023/11/nl-can-handle-3-metre-sea-level-rise-but-problems-will-surface/), but we can reasonably expect, in the next century, the committed sea level rise to continue upwards above 3 m. The court should perhaps consider relocating to higher ground.
It’s the Lorax
Western law based on property rights is the problem here. What about the rights of those whose climate is cooked, or whose future is stolen from them?
