LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – The Greater Longview Optimal Wellness (GLOW) initiative is seeing positive results after a recent data analysis.
The program helps people get resources they need and reduce unnecessary ambulance calls.
“We identify users of the 911 system that have to use it frequently because they’re not receiving the care they need,” GLOW Steering Committee Member Amy Hooten said. “Maybe they’re using 911 for social determinants or non-medical drivers of health such as food, transportation, things like that.
We want to work with them, to connect them to our nonprofits in our community to get them the resources.”
Hooten said UT Tyler was commissioned to conduct an independent study of the program, providing the program with a “snapshot of data.”
She said although it’s only a small glimpse, the success can be seen in the reduction of repeated ambulance rides and ER visits.
“That’s why you see those numbers going down,” Hooten said. “They got the services they needed.”
