On top of the many dramatic moves expected out of the incoming Trump administration, now there is a claim that the new U.S. Space Command might be moved out of Colorado Springs.

Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement after U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (Rep., Alabama) claimed in an interview that President-elect Donald Trump will move Space Command HQ to Alabama:

“It’s already been investigated, proven, and decided: Colorado Springs is the best place for Space Command because it’s already at work here.

“U.S. Space Command is at full operational capability and has been for nearly a year. Dedicated service members and civilians are working around the clock at Peterson Space Force Base to keep our country safe in space.

“Alabama couldn’t win this fight on the merits so they’re trying to get Trump to overrule our national security and cost taxpayers an enormous amount for the sake of a hometown win. We need leaders who fight for our national defense first, not just Huntsville’s economy.”

Huntsville, Alabama is one of at least three major NASA facilities ( Houston, Cape Kennedy, Huntsville). Colorado has been home to the fledgling aerospace command operations, and is also home to several aerospace manufacturers and defense contractors, including not jist giants such as Lockheed Martin, but dozens of aerospace engineering startups.
