It is funny when he is “publicly” communicating with with his minions
We cannot deny the fact that he has the switch in his own hands and we must be very careful. Moreover, it is unethical and morally wrong to use it as a weapon against countries like Moldova.
Why can’t we just use that new pipeline? Less countries it goes through the cheaper it is and Russia and Western Europe will be happy! /s
Of course he would, if gas prices keep on being this high, governments in Europe will have a strong incentive to diversify, evidently Putin doesnt want that.
Putin is a hero for Europe!
He’s playing good cop, and at the same time he’s showing he has the power to squeeze our throats whenever he wants.
I suppose Russia can show a bit of muscle every now and then, but ultimately profits too much from gas to keep the supply low for too long, and besides keeping it too low could be a too strong incentive for EU to seek alternatives more seriously. Or perhaps some sort of concessions were given to Russia behind the scenes.
But but…he was fulfilling, right russian bots?
> During a call with officials on Wednesday, Putin told Alexei Miller — the head of Gazprom — to start pumping gas into the company’s storage facilities in the bloc.
> The natural gas giant was told to supply storage units in Austria and Germany after November 8, by which time Russia’s domestic depots are expected to be filled.
Sounds like he wants Gazprom’s storage in the EU filled, and not necessarily selling gas on the spot market. He might still be angling for a long term deal.
It’s important for Putin to maintain demand for LNG in Europe. He then can have more leverage over China. Russia are already China’s biggest oil supplier and coal imports are 5 times higher than 1 year ago. Putin has seen what Xi Jinping done to Australia and has learnt to diversify his markets and decrease dependency on pipelines to China. Developing alternative supply chains away from China, preventing becoming a victim of economic coercion.
I think alot of people see Russia in a way stronger position than it really is. Reality is Russia has a lower GDP than Italy and the only income source of the state is selling natural ressources like oil and gas. Russia depends pn foreign money more than europe reliese on Russian gas. The gas market is a global one and if you want you can order a tanker the next day. This is why we are building gas docking stations all around europe.
What we currently have is a production dump because of corona, everything has become expensive due to the fact that the markets demand more than there is around. Shipping cost are insanse, Aluminium prices are insanse, wood prices, semiconductors even basic stuff like heating elements.
Europe can do fine without the gas, but it’s very nice the electric prices might drop now. It’s so stupidly expensive in Denmark right now
but the Germany government said NS 2 it’s not political project, just business. and now we see putin can set prices on gas in Europe by one call.
are they stupid or just recieve percent from the NS 2?
Thank you Merkel for closing Germany nuclear plants, such a great decision.
It should be stressed Gasprom its refilling its OWN storages within the EU, which it intentionally didn’t fill up before winter.
i wonder what concessions Europe had to give them
Well, the prices haven’t dropped even by 1 cent in Bulgaria, yet.
