Incoming tweet of red and green dots that kicks off a big wank session about the government hating the poor or something

Really hope this is not being considered. We need to get our act together on climate change in Ireland and a carbon tax is one of the things we’ve got right.
If the government needs to take measures to address the cost of living due to inflation, then they should be done in a way that doesn’t take a step backward on climate change, doesn’t feed into the inflation cycle and is temporary so it can be easily removed when no longer required. Increasing fuel subsidises/supports or even a 12 month reduction in fuel excise duties would seem to tick more boxes than scrapping the carbon tax increase.
Magic Money tree.
Solves all problems lads.
It even soaks up CO2 at the rate of millions of regular trees.
Dare I say it. This could be popular.
I mean, sure our climate is in bits and taxes like this drive innovation in alternatives and change, so desperately needed, but if you just don’t think about it for long, this seems like a great idea…
Add it to the list like tax the banks and abolish LPT of policies that sound great once you don’t think about them for long. Populist, if you will.
For once I agree with Sinn Fein.
To you people who are going to start saying it’s a bad thing because of the climate – you are wrong.
This tax unfairly targets those who **cannot** transition to electric vehicles, or afford to live in a city. 18.75% of the country is struggling financially already, and this carbon tax is a kick in the teeth to them.
If you actually wanted to fight climate emissions in an equitable manner you’d apply the carbon taxes to luxury goods, and to crap imported from overseas, and start using the additional funds to create better public transport, electric bus fleets, social housing etc – not to pay to insulate the homes of rich people who can already afford to do so themselves anyway.
Considering VAT has more effect on the price of petrol, would it not be more effective for SF to propose cutting the rate of VAT?
Unless of course this is all showmanship and not a viable solution
The amount of these populist and pointless motions lately is tiring. All for the social media retweets and faux outrage.
Sinn Féin being both populist and anti-environmental? Say it ain’t so!
Bringing in carbon taxes when the price of fuel and energy already through the roof is insane.
I find it impossible to take seriously anything a party has to say on the environment when they suggest something like this.
There are plenty of ways to help those in need but to scrap one of the most important tools we have in tackling our contribution to the climate crisis? They’re just throwing shapes.
It’s just the same constant moaning from Sinn Fein.
No plan, just a bunch of lads screaming/crying about everything
I’m not surprised at SF adopting this stance as it’s their job in opposition but I am surprised at the number of people who believe that their carbon taxes are somehow helping the environment. In a country with such poor transport alternatives, carbon taxes have a negligible effect on behaviour and just serve to make everyone’s pockets a little lighter.
Motions are notions
Not a great sign considering hard choices need to be made on lots of areas once you are in government.
Another publicity stunt by the opposition which will achieve nothing as usual except they can do a few videos and stick online
Of course it will waste 1-2 days in the Dail when they could be working to get some of the issues resolved
Rightly so. The money gained from carbon tax won’t go near actually helping with our emissions targets.
VAT and USC should also be lowered/scrapped to help with the cost of living, but we don’t need extra hammer blows with carbon taxes.
Give people alternatives to cars etc rather than punishing people for something they have no choice over.
As both Greta and Mary Lou put it, “blah blah blah”.
Carbon taxes aren’t in yet? I thought they were contributing to my huge electricity bill!!! 🙈
Why is the Irish left so anti-tax and care so little about the environment?

Friendly reminder motions are worthless.
