  1. Paywalled article if anyone can drop the full thing.

Would be interested to hear if there’s any substance behind that claim or if its just fear mongering.

  2. They might be planning it, but I think they maybe disappointed by the economics of it if they do form a government. The cost of administering a charging system and an exemption system must eat into the money raised significantly.

  3. Just because Sarwar has argued in favour of income tax, land and buildings transaction tax, landfill tax, and unfreeze tax bands to match rUK levels, and opposes council tax changes and rises, doesn’t mean that there’ll be any impact to ScotGov spending.

  4. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me with Anus, it’d do more damage to his party if they rescind it versus the cost.

  5. Does anyone actually cost these things to work out what the difference is between them. I’m in favour of means testing, but have no idea of the financial implications.

  6. The fact we’ve spent all our money on pay rises for public sector workers also a risk I imagine

  7. God forbid people actually make a contribution to paying for medicine.

  8. I was shocked when I found out how many people in England got free prescriptions

Disabled people, pensioners, people with low income etc

Honestly it’s faster to name those that do pay, people who are working and doing ok, even for those people I think it’s capped at £120 a year for your prescription

It really takes the scare out of the SNPs “they are going to take your prescription” scaremongering

  9. There is no “Scottish Labour Party” registered with companies House, they are registered as an accounting division of the English Labour Party,
“Scottish labour” was officially disbanded in 1981 after thatcher effectively wiped them out in ’79

  10. They will just do what they are told by Westminster. If they are told to ditch it – they will ditch it.

Following Westminster is the only thing that matters to them.

  11. Good! I do not believe anyone who works should be getting free prescriptions anyway. Maybe there would be situations where it’s long term health conditions but for 90% of adhoc items we should absolutely be paying for them.

  12. The current Westminster health Secretary has strong ties tae the private healthcare industry and the current chancellor is a Tory in all but name.

Labour are primarily an English party and a lot of actions done by Scotlands parliament show them up, so it’s in their interest tae see us fail.

  13. I’m all for people buying ibuprofen etc from Morrisons for 32p if they can afford it. Costs the taxpayer about 10 times as much to dish it out free. For those who need expensive life saving drugs though probably needs to stay as it is.

  14. How could labour let Scottish people have free prescriptions and not people in England. The voters would not be happy

  15. sarwar will want regulatory alignment with the uk, whether they will or not shouldn’t even be a credible discussion. labour will 100% do this

  16. Good. Those that can pay should pay.

How are we defending subsidies for the rich and well off?

  17. We need to be same as rest of U.K. but not Wales where they are in charge maybe?

The cost of prescriptions is going to rise thanks to Labours plan to freeze old folk on £13k a year so maybe that’s why?
