I fell of my bike at a high speed so I went to the ER for a check for broken bones or sth.
Got:
– Tetanus shot
– Urine sample
– X-ray and ultra sound for internal bleeding check
– some wound cleaning
These stuff seem to total for around € 45-50
With some other fees I would understand 70-80 but 170?? Am I missing sth ?

So I have a couple of questions:
Why did I get charged for the shot twice (375-MED)
What are (5030 & 5031) for nearly €50?
What is Beratung auch telefonisch(1)?
And did I get charged 20€ for a report(75)?

  1. 375 is the work. MED is the medicine.

    5030 and 5031 are the X-Rays.

Did you call them? That’s telefonisch.

And yep. That report was 20€.

  2. You get charged for the provider’s time (numbers) and materials used (MED and MAT). From context 5030/31 sound like fees for the X-ray. 1 and 75 are standard fees that are almost always included for personal contact and an (internal) write-up of your injuries. Seems pretty cheap for what was offered.

  3. Others correct me if I am wrong as I am no doctor but here is my understanding:

375 is getting you the shot so the physical activity by the doctor, Med is the medicine that you got shot.

5030&5031 is the explicit checking of those areas, and if they seem fine, they did this in 2 different ways I assume, could also be left and right side(don’t think its the last one tough), not sure.

1 Is the talking part, so any question you had or any talking the doctor made, they include the phone here because it also could be done over phone, which in your case wasnt , still the same thing.

75 Yes exactly, a doctor report for 20€ is standard. And they have to be done.

  4. That is cheap. No plumber would have unblocked your loo for only €200 at that time.

  5. You went to the ER and got treated below cost for the Hospital. (Yes, Hospitals loose Money on the Emergency Room)

And yes, you did get charged for a Report. And no, that’s not optional.

They also won’t negotiate the Bill.

They bill according to the rules laid Out by the state for Patients with private health Insurance or paying Out of Pocket

Just Run it through your shitty Mawista private Health Insurance and stop complaining about the Cost

  6. It’s really reasonable for the scope of treatment. Subtract the 2.3 factor for private patients from the treatments, then you have the insurance rate. For the full programme and in the middle of the night: a really reasonable price.

Edit: The part about the 2.3 factor is probably not correct.

  7. Apparently, you are not properly insured.
If you were, you would pay nothing.
So yeah, that is pretty normal and rather low cost.

I have heard friends from US being charged $500 for pretty much some bandaging 😛

  8. I do not understand, OP, do you live in Germany? If not, then ignore this. But if you live here, why do you not have proper health insurance. Mawista is NOT proper health insurance. It is a very shitty travel insurance.

  9. Hey OP. I read that you’ve mawista. I used to have that as a student. For now, you have to pay this bill out of your pocket. Send this bill to mawista claim. And they will transfer the bill amount into your registered bank account.

  10. You think like a true german! You go to a hospital get x ray, wound cleaning, tetanus shot, ultrasound and actually think that 200€ is expensive 😂 In the US, you would have paid 200$ just for a handshake. Bill is ok, way to cheap though.

  11. 200€ is very cheap for that. I once called my GP, for a 5 minute conversation he charged 30€. (It was paid by the insurance company.)

  12. Haha, a charge for talking to the patient, brilliant! I measn it’s not too crazy numbers but that’s so german 😀 nothing is for free… if they could measure the inhaled air on their premises they would probably put it on the bill

  13. That’s actually not much imo. If you don’t have local insurance with card then you have to pay for the service provided as individual.

  14. Dude you got a travel insurance and payed 200€ for

    Tetanus shot
    Urine sample
X-ray and ultra sound for internal bleeding check
some wound cleaning These stuff seem to total for around € 45-50 With some other fees I would understand 70-80 but 170?? Am I missing sth ?

Thats an awesome price. Ask US people how much they pay for that and you get a bill 2000€ upwards.

Get yourself an proper insurance and you dont have to pay anything.
