My mother is a teacher. She’s gotten in trouble with previous schools for allowing pupils to use the bathroom during class. Absolutely mind boggling that this would cause an issue.
The school is quoted in the article as saying:
“Our current policy is designed to ensure that pupils can access a toilet when they need to, while ensuring minimal disruption to lessons and learning.”
If the events are as described by the girls Mother are accurate then their system isn’t working.
At what point, when a child is clearly in distress, does the system recognise that this is a perfectly normal part of nature and something the girl has no control over?
Probably a good idea to suspend the child to ensure that a policy that’s poorly thought through is preserved right? /s
So much for safe guarding the physical and mental well being of the child.
Something odd about going to the press to talk about your period. There is more to this.

Come on, you people were ever schoolkids? You know there will.be kids whomsit at the back of the.class who.will.use this “I want to go toilet” as a way to scive off the classroom and mess about. Lesson were 1hr 15 minutes for us and we were well.awsy that we couldn’t use toilets unless we really really needed to.
Yes periods are quite different. But there will be loads of girls who will.claim.to.have period problems and try to escape the classroom.
I suspect things didn’t go down exactly as the girl and mother described.
Well yet again a young woman has had the school decide that nature will not matter. This is starting to get way too common.
Whoever denied her request and whomever made this policy should face a disciplinary or a P45.
No stake in this, just confused as to why they thought posting her name and picture in the local rag was a good idea
And then schools wonder why girls refuse to attend school when on their periods?
I’ll never forget the horror of dealing with a male teacher when my period arrived mid class, I was a very heavy bleeder and at first tried discreetly to ask to go and sort it.
He made me announce to my whole class what I was asking for then still refused, telling me “This was a lesson in being prepared.” Then got mad when the class finished that there was blood all over the chair and myself.
I was 12. It was maybe my third or fourth one ever and it still haunts me 16 years later..
They “forced her to sit in her own filth”. It doesn’t say who they’re quoting here, but whoever it was they have a terrible attitude towards menstruation.
“A spokesperson for Corfe Hills School said: “We encourage pupils to use the toilets before school, during break and lunchtime, as well as after school, to minimise disruption to their learning.”
The problem with this is that everyone uses the toilet at break and lunch, meaning that there is a queue, so you either have to find another toilet that doesn’t have a queue, which can sometimes mean going to the other side of the school, or not use the toilet at all so you can get to lesson on time. And if you are late to lesson, because there was a queue or you had to go to the other side of the school building to find a toilet, you get in trouble for being late. You just can’t win.
I think that we need to have a look at how militant schools are around toilet use. This sort of thing can cause lifelong problems. There was a neurodivergent girl in my college class, whose school would punish students for using the toilet during lessons, which meant that she was terrified to ask the teacher for permission and terrified of getting into trouble for leaving to use the toilet, which led to her getting frequent infections because she would hold it.
Some teachers are absolute wankers when it comes to toilet breaks. I wasn’t allowed to go back in 5th year.. I was super desperate and pleased with the teacher. He refused. So I got up and bolted for the door and he blocked my way. Made me sit back down. I was in cold sweats from trying to stop it but I ended up shitting myself in school in front of all my friends. It doesn’t embarrass me now as I’m old enough to know it wasn’t my fault but back then, it was the end of everything. Teachers shouldn’t have power over bodily functions.
