  1. >Reflecting on her wide-ranging oeuvre — which will include the forthcoming Babygirl — Nicole Kidman said it seems harder to make and greenlight projects nowadays, especially if they’re not big tentpole draws.

    >“Everything’s hard now,” she told Vanity Fair in a new interview. “Actually everything. I mean, maybe not Deadpool, but there’s nothing that’s, ‘Oh my gosh. Yep. This is it. Greenlight, let’s go.’ Or maybe it’s just the things that I do. [Laughs] I just think that’s the nature of what we’re dealing with now. Things are shrinking in terms of shows being done and films being made. I definitely feel it. I’m sure most people in the industry feel it. I know the crews feel it. I know writers feel it.”

    >When asked if the increased difficulty scares her, the Academy Award winner answered, “Yes. Well, I don’t know if it scares me. I think it requires more aligning with the right people and pooling our resources and choosing to not spread yourself too thin so that you have the energy and the desire to keep moving forward. But it’s always been hard. I mean, I started at 14, so I’ve seen a lot now.”

  2. Man she ain’t holding any punches. Shading Scorsese, shading CBM which she’s been a part of. Is she in the middle of a divorce?

  3. Those people bashing CBM are just forgetting a tiny detail… That in the 90s and early 2000s actors didn’t earn dozens of millions per movie, so cheaper and niche movies were made and made profit, because some random drama didn’t cost about 50 million dollars.

Maybe if those actors costed less, more indie and niche movies would be made, as they would be cheaper to make, and would actually make some profits. But hey, what do I know, I am just some random dude on reddit.

  4. It’s scary to release things for studios that is brand new IP. All the remakes or sequels or things with already famous characters occurring tend to be safe bets. But even then with horrible box office results like joker 2, transformers one. There’s no guarantee. Why is it happening now more then before is something to look into

And for the people talking about writing. Yeah it matters for sure, but I think we have all seen things nobody watched that was amazing

  5. I’m no fan of Deadpool or Ryan Reynolds personally but I know he worked very hard for years to get it off the ground.

  6. It’s not even a dig at Reynolds or Deadpool, really she’s just stating that major production studios aren’t willing to take a chance on anything that isn’t backed by a huge franchise like sequels or super hero films.. if any of you possessed any media literacy you’d be able to discern that. Think, what movie studio is willing to shell out 100+ million for an original film or anything of the sort?

  7. Yet there are so many shows someone doesn’t care for.

  8. I dunno, maybe try making something good that isn’t just another sequel or reboot?

  9. The amount of really expensive movies (that aren’t CB movies) that get greenlit is a ton. Just look at this holiday season. I think that people want to make expensive movies and not be holded to a big return.

  10. Deadpool was famously pretty hard to green light, and the gap between the second and third suggests that it was pretty hard to get the third one approved during the fox Disney business

  11. Hollywood is trying to force narratives that are out of touch with most ppl. Everything is political or gender based. We need solid scripts

  12. Studios need to stop pandering to whatever is going on in society and make more original movies. I can’t remember the last “holy shit” reaction I got out of a movie. I ll go to the movies and spend 120$ but how things have been I’d rather sit home and stream them. Cellphones are seriously ruining the theater experience.

  13. I mean Dune was made and exceptional.
If you’ve read the books and seen the awful Lynch version you’d see how astounding it was to get it a)made and b) good

Plus plenty of awesome tv shows like Silo, severance fallout the boys

    wtf is Nicole on about

  14. How far are we away from just some person talking to a.i and it makes the movie in minutes?
