Say what you want but he kept us in the game for more than 5 times alone in overtime

  1. I’m sorry you guys went out, I’d have rather been against you in the semifinals. As for my house I’m not buying any cameras to protect myself… The pictures of Sommer are enough.

  2. Yes Sommer is a wall, but can we talk about Akanji? That man was always where he needed to be these last three games, and he practically didn’t let anything through. The amount of Spanish attacks he interrupted yesterday was probably a greater number to Sommers saves.

  3. No need to change opinion, Sommer has always been an excellent GK.

I learned of him back in 2007 as a backup keeper at FC Basel, never thought he would become so good.

  5. Hi OP, I don’t really get your point; is Sommer being critized? All I’ve seen was exclusive praise up to the point where he got mentioned as possible goalkeeper of the tournament, despite the defeat agsinst Italy. Did I miss sth?

  6. Oh yeah – no doubt. He was like Neo in The Matrix.

The football gods were not smiling upon Switzerland. The own-goal, and the totally OTT red card were the spoilers. On the positive side, Sommer and the team went though TWO scoreless OTs. On the negative side, my grandmother could have done better than some of those penalty shoot-out pattycakes.

  7. Fun fact about Yann Sommer:
My Cousin used to play football on sundays on the Jakobsberg in Basel with him. They never let Yann be the goalie – because he sucked at it! That was many years ago though.
