SPOKANE, Wash. — The Climate Commitment Act remains in play in Washington. It requires cities to include a climate element in their comprehensive plan.
Climate planning can include strategies or policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to changing environmental conditions and enhance climate resiliency.
In Spokane, the first steps are underway for that climate and resiliency planning.
An early feedback opportunity asked community members which climate impacts they are most concerned about. 49% of people voted for wildfires and smoke, 24% voted for increased heat and drought and 6% voted for heavy rains and flooding.
The climate planning team is still looking for feedback. You can put in your own feedback on the issue here.
