I wasn’t a real fan of the change back when it happened but I quickly grew to like the new Pudsey.
He’s actually quite adorable and he always makes me smile when I see him.
I’m no artist but the Pudsey in the first image is more of a realised character – that could appear in a cartoon, for example, and the Pudsey in image 2 reads more like an icon that you would see on a packet of biscuits.
The second is simplified, lacking the curved edging that the original has around his ears, cheeks, arms and legs.
The single black beady eye also serves to make him seem less alive or something? Definitely feels more corporate mascot than children’s character, if that makes sense. Again, not an art guy.
The original has a good balance of hope and despair.
The new one is a burnt out redcoat with drug issues.
Does the new one button up the back?
The new one doesn’t look trampy enough. Does he really need my money?
Nostalgia, it ain’t what it used to be.
They did change him up slightly this year with a new artstyle where he does undoubtedly look a little more alive and emotive, but its still the same design
Why are my eyes drawn to the crotch on #2? Is it prominent?
#2 looks like clip art…
I miss when Red Nose Day was just the one nose and had a gimmick like the white chocolate photos or shooting water.
Not all this blind bag BS.
The 2nd one is like a crappy MS paint animation, glad it’s gone.
The current one is as cold and sterile as like 90% of most brand logos these days.
Just the sad world we live in now.
Surely the other way round?
You are all looking at it as adults. The first is overly detailed, and looks dated and slightly unsettling to a child. The second is simple, recognisable, and the thicker lines and darker colours give it a warmer, more friendly look
Looks dated tbh, but the new one’s eyepatch/bandana thing makes me think it looks like its skin has been torn off
Check out that BBC on Pudsey
It might be because it’s the one I grew up with but I prefer the new one
You sent me down a rabbit hole. I like old logos and stuff.

[This ](https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/about-us/history/) is interesting. There were a couple of crap logos before that one.
I wonder if it’s because the new Pudsey (2nd image) is easier to copyright and protect.
The new one just looks like a corporate creation.
Artist vs graphic designer
and
Ramshackle fundraiser for the kids vs super shiny promotional vehicle for B list celebrities
Hahaha – was just talking to my dad about this then saw this post 😆
We both agree. The new one looks like an anthropomorphic blob. RIP OG Pudsey xo
