Farming saves autistic workers from isolation

  1. Well lads, time you got off the subreddit and did some graft for once in your lives.

    >Chris Williams, 23, says before starting at the farm, he would hover over new submission on his favourite subreddit, ready to metaphorically ‘destroy’ anyone neglecting to blame the wind on Boris. Now he is one of Pennyhooks Farm’s key workers, managing the care of hundreds of chickens on the farm. He says he enjoys this work, as it upsets Vegan agenda posters.

  2. Can tell how life has me jaded that my first thought wasn’t how this is neat for those it helps and simply that this will be used by Tories and DWP as a weapon.

There’s a genuine lack of even charities to help Autistic adults, most available services are focused on basically creating play date babysitting for adult ASD. Services that offer to a wider range other than focusing on ASD keep shutting down over the last 10 years too so it is interesting this project is still going.

  3. >A group of autistic young farm workers say the job has saved them from a potential life of isolation and boredom

In my experience farm work is the definition of isolation and boredom with plenty of cold, misery, overwork and occupational hazard thrown in to boot.

  4. Farm near me does similar for school leavers with learning disabilities working on the farm and running a tea room and it’s really helped them
